The discovery of two feral children in the Sederberg is linked to other mysteries. These are subtly developed in this engrossing, finely-wrought novel. The writing is beautiful, all delicacy and nuance. Descriptions of both landscape and interiors quiver with atmosphere. I loved the way the author names and sometimes lists the colours of things, as if the colours themselves are precious treasure.

At its most poignant level, it's a story of loss. The younger of the children has taken to the comfor
I enjoyed this, but I enjoyed Shark's Egg even more.
Delicate prose depicting a fragile tale.

Henrietta Rose-Innes is a South African writer based in Cape Town. Her novel Nineveh was published by Random House Struik in 2011, following a short-story collection, Homing and two earlier novels: Shark's Egg and The Rock Alphabet.

In 2012, her short story 'Sanctuary' took second place in the BBC International Short Story Competition. Nineveh was shortlisted for the 2012 Sunday Times Fiction Prize
