I felt at times that the author simply watched Alby's documentaries and made notes. Although Lynn Santer knows Alby extremely well, she fails to provide the reader with thought provoking material. Their close friendship apparently got in the way of a more journalistic approach. For example, most of the controversy surrounding Alby and his documentaries is simply brushed away. Shelves: for-fun
No one is a bigger Alby Manels fan than I am (hyperbole) and while this did a good job of filling in the black of who Alby was prior to and after World Safari, the writing is pretty bad. The author is very fond of exclaimation points, which made me feel like I was reading a childrens book. But if you can suffer through the Highlights for Children magazine level writing of the thing and are a fan of World Safari, then maybe it's worth your while.
