I have used CW as a touchstone text for a number of my Children's Literature courses. Eudora Welty called it a nearly perfect children's book when she reviewed it upon its publication. It does suffer flaws in terms of gender roles that White assigns/assumes, but overall it provides a great read and an excellent opportunity to examine both reader response and author craft.

recommends it for:
parents of 5+ yr. olds
My 4 & 5 year olds are beginning to love books, even without a picture on each page. These two books have been a perfect introduction to chapter stories to captivate their imaginations and memories from one night to the next. *Highly recommended classics to introduce chapter books to young children.

It's a very sweet story with good lessons about friendship and loyalty. While I enjoyed the book it was *too* young a children's for me. Unlike the Harry Potter series and the Judy Blume books, also written for kids, this one appears to have been written for younger children.

I have been reading this book every year to my first graders...12 years running and it gets better every time! Still can't get through the last few chapters with out a shaky voice and some tears, I guess that's what makes it so very good.

was originally read to us in grade 3. Kept going back to it--Loved the theme of the pig inspiring charlotte to spin her web even if that meant she would die. It was sad at the end but worth the read.

This is a one of a kind classic. Who honestly doesn't love this story. It could seriously make someone go vegetarian. It is definately cute and happy. The movie was also great.

My four year old and I both cried at the end. I have seen the cartoon version so many times but the book created so much more emotion (as books often do).

The best book!!! This book made me love reading. The artwork is equally enjoyable. Buy this book for every child you know.

One of my favorites as a child. I always share this with my second grade class at the end of the year and they love it too!

I liked the story but at the end I still had more questions, and I didn't feel like the story completly ended.

Wonderful. I think this was the first book I read when I was a child that had a major character who died.
