This new offering by Michele is one of my favorites. Michele really knows her stuff and she brings the modesty issue where it needs to be. I really like how she brings this Butterfly Box into the mix. The story is centered around 6 close friends in high school and the tragic accident that brings them even closer and allows them to get together once a year to celebrate their friendship and what matters most in life. Since this is the first in a series, we follow Lauryn in her dreams of becoming a...more

I know that I have much to be grateful for because I can read, so it is with a prayer in my heart that I contemplate the meaning of this novel... I have faith that the author will be blessed as she continues her story of these women, and the women will all be blessed because of their faith and the fact that they don't talk like the rest of the free world! She went a little overboard on the sappy LDS writing! At least it wasn't yet anyone's time to go!

Like the other books on this shelf, I read this one for research purposes. It wasn't horrible, in that I didn't cringe too often, but it's definitely not stellar writing. It was well-plotted (albeit highly unbelievable, especially the Laslow character), but the dialogue was a little unnatural, and her whole work crisis thing actually didn't make sense at all. It felt like the author was basically saying, "Trust me, these people are bad guys and they're out to get her." Without making i...more

This was a pretty quick little read. A little more geared towards the early twenties group of the population....but the concept of having modest and still georgeous evening wear was very appealing. I only wish the author had thought to include illustrations with this one. Oh well my imagination was sad substitute in this case...I unfortunately know very little about sewing or sewing terminology so I had a very difficult time trying to imagine these gowns. Oh well. Maybe somebody will take a ...more

This is by an LDS author and it deals with getting older and still being single, losing a close friend, and finidng our place in the world. Well, in this case it is the fashion world. Lauren is a New York designer, trying to find a good LDS man to date and hopefully marry, trying to design modest clothing while working in New York City, and trying to keep old friendships alive. It is more for adults, but not because of sexual content--for goodness sakes it's an LDS author!--but just becau...more

I liked this book. It was cute and uplifting. Michele Bell can be way too predictable at times, but it's a cute happy story that brings a smile to your face every so often throughout the book.

Bell's writing is interesting and funny in spots. I actually did like the main character, but I was irritated by all the set-up for other books in the series. It turned me off of a lot of the things to be getting far too many glimpses into issues that will, I assume, come up later. I wish she would have stuck to this book.

This is an easy enjoyable read about a group of friends who all stay close after high school after the death of one of their group. They get together once a year and open their "Butterfly Box" of memories. This novel covers the story of one of the friends, Lauren, who dreams of designing evening gowns - modest evening gowns. Lauren stays true to her standards in the New York, cut throat fashion industry. I enjoyed this story, but felt like some of the characters were too good to be...more

I've loved all of Bell's books, and this one only added to it. I love the idea of bringing modesty into the book and having Lauryn be a fashion designer in the making. I love that this book is part of a series and can't wait to see what happens with the other 4 butterfly girls. Jace is a great character who is a rock for lauryn through the hard times. If only all teen girls could have the support of both great girl and guy friends. I like the spin on bringing the step sister into the picture sho...more

This was a combination between An Affair to Remember and Sweet Home Alabama. It had a cute plot, for an LDS fiction book. I used to read this genre all the time. However, many years ago I moved on to bigger, better books - usually of the romance genre. This book was ok, but the beginning was slow - so much so that I skipped almost the first 100 pages. After that it gets better. Still, there are things about LDS fiction that is just too cheesy for me. But if you like the genr...more

Looks like the first of a series. Friends from high school get together each year and share again their goals and standards symbolized in the "butterfly box" they put together at the time of the death of one of their friends.
This book deals with Lauryn who wants to design clothing, especially modest dresses for special occasions. She does have a good job in New York working for a designer but does outerwear.
A compeating designer plots to use her to get at her employer. Lov...more

I'll review this more in full later--but I really enjoyed this book because I majored in Fashion Merchandising and it all came tumbling back.

reading this book by Michele Bell, cute for teens with great messages about modesty in today's world, also fun friendship and relationship stuff. I finished, I liked it. The plot gets really good and you can't wait to see what happens. I think it would be great for young women to read. It has a lot of great examples of standing up for what you believe that they could really connect with and the characters are very likeable.

This book was a lot of fun. There was a lot of jumping around between time periods, but it didn't get out of control. It is the story of six friends (with the focus on one), beginning in high school. This book takes place as they are turning 30. It looks like (from the cover) that it is the beginning of a series, so maybe each of the friends will have a turn as protagonist. I hope so!

I really enjoyed this book. The only thing that is dissapointing is that it is a series and I have no idea when the nest one comes out or how many there will in the series. There werw a few unanswered questions that leave you hanging. This book had a different twist to it, but still a cute love story. Overall it was an enjoyable book. :)

I thought this was a sweet, charming book. I had plenty of smiles throughout, and a good laugh here and there. There are some great characters in supporting rolls. I gave this to my daughter to read, and once I convinced her to try it, she seemed to thouroughly enjoy the story. I look forward to other books in the series.

I'm enjoying this story so far. I think the author is trying a little too hard to make every character have some big problem - divorce, drinking, eating disorders. It wouldn't hurt to have just some normal people in the story. But I highly recommend it I have laughed out loud a couple of times never an easy task for an author to do.

It was a cute book, reminds me a little of the traveling pants series with the group of friends who meet every year for their yearly ceremony. This one takes place after college with references back to teenage years. Even though you can pretty much guess the outcome, it's a quick read that keeps you drawn in to the end.
