Dystopian manga? Get out.

It's 2023, ten years after an earthquake sunk 70% of Tokyo. Ganta Igarashi, a survivor of the Great Tokyo Earthquake, went on to live a normal life. When a creature Ganta calls Red Man murders all his classmates, he is sentenced to death and placed in Deadman Wonderland.

In Deadman Wonderland, the prisoners are wealthy as they can earn Cast Points. CPs can buy nearly anything, even a sentence reduction. It's like a credit card but if it's stolen, it isn't considered fraud
Bizarre and twisted with lots of gory action. Ganta's entire classroom is brutally massacred in from of him by a mysterious "Red Man" and next thing he knows he is in prison for apparently murdering them. But this is no ordinary prison. It is a televised deathmatch, prison and amusement park all in one! Sounds crazy right? Well it doesn't stop there...

This is one very messed up read. In a place with madmen with special abilities, competitions for survival and expensive candy that you will die if

Off to a fantastic start. This is creepy, unsettling, horrific Japanese dystopia at its finest. Add in a paranormal element and everything you could want is here. Deadman Wonderland is a most unique world; an amusement park built on top of a privatized prison, the park is run by the inmates and the death row inmates are especially heinously controlled and made to participate is events (games) which result in life or death. A little like "Hunger Games" only more violent. While futuristic and dyst ...more

I’m not a giant fan of the ultra violent manga since they tend to be long on gore and scantily dressed women and short on plot so I came into this with some preconceived notions. Happily, Deadman Wonderland blew those notions away. Yes, there was gore and violence but there was plot. Said plot, however, is a bit different and takes a nice dollop of suspension of disbelief.

It opens with Ganta Igarashi, a teenaged boy, and his classmates whining about the lame school trip that’s planned to Deadma
I'm really on the fence here. I enjoyed this manga, but only after coming to terms with the fact that I needed to shut off certain significant brain areas first.

Deadman Wonderland is the name of Japan's only for-profit prison, and in addition to incarcerating prisoners, it also turns them into entertainment celebs, who do various things to entertain audiences. The inmates earn points, the prison earns money, and the end goal is to rebuild Tokyo, which was destroyed in a flood some ten years prev
Recipe: Take a third of Battle Royale, a third of Prison Break, and a third of Akira. Stir them in a bawl until the flavor is all gone and add lots of bad storytelling around the plate it is served upon. The result is Deadman Wonderland. Or as I prefer to call it, BrainDeadman COCOland; a completely unrealistic and chaotic show, with lots of gore thrown in to attract the casual viewers with superficial entertainment. Everything is made to be as much exaggerated as possible with violence overblow ...more

Such a unique plotline! Using criminals to pay for the reconstruction of a country while still keeping them imprisioned and for the public to not realize that it's all quite inhumane. Not to mention the 'real deadman wonderland'. On top of all that there is the mystery of the Egg and his powers, and the powers that Igarashii is developing because of him. So many unanswered questions, looking forward to their answers!

My god this was such a good start to the series! Heaps of mystery and interesting powers :)

This book is for young adults who preferably like manga (Japanese comics) as well horror stories. (Age 12 to 18). In Deadman Wonderland, a young boy named Ganta, who is in middle school, one day meets a mysterious "red man" who suddenly kills all his classmates then disappears. Ganta, who is the only survivor of his class, is later convicted of murdering his classmates and thrown into "Deadman Wonderland Prison" on death row. He is found guilty. Fighting to prove his innocence he meets the myste ...more

I like it so far, with the gory and killing and blood and all. There's still a million of questions inside my head, though. I shall continue.
Oh boy. This story is Violent with a capital V. Lots of mysteries and lots of evil. I predict a truck-load of twists in the coming volumes.

Oh my goooodnesss. I have a lot to say about this Deadman Wonderland. The other day I found the second volume at the library, and knowing that I owned the first I decided I'd finally give it a go and checked it out (along with three others). It was last on my list because I had to actually get through the first volume before hand. And I knew that everyone said it was good, I'd heard so many awesome remarks about it. Even just the other day my friend, Nick, and I were sitting in the schools libra ...more

I am enjoying this manga very much, I'm a girl who likes her action as well as some gruesome scenes. Now Deadman Wonderland isn't very well known but it is different from many shounen manga that I've happened to read.

Deadman Wonderland has such a unique story with captivating characters that draw you in and wonder about their backstory and once you see their past you can't help but not love them even more. That's what i really enjoyed a
Ganta is enjoying his everyday school life when the "red man" appears and kills all of his classmates except for him. After the event he is arrested and sentenced to death row for killing his classmates. He is taken to the only private prison "Deadman Wonderland" where he meets Shiro and has to figure out how to survive the deadly games within the prison.

This is not your typical manga there is something much deeper going on and the real trick is to just survive. There is death and blood througho

Igarashi Ganta was a normal middle school student until the Redman appeared, he gruesomely murdered Ganta’s class and left him to wonder why he was the only survivor. But the authorities questioned the circumstances of how he survived so they assumed he was the murderer so he was put on trial and sentenced to death at Dead man wonderland (Japan’s first privately owned prison/amusement park). Soon after arriving there he realizes what a twisted hell that place is and that he was framed by the pr ...more
I can't believe I have never heard of this series before. Here I am, thinking I've discovered something no one has read before and all the kids in the library tell me they've already read and watched the series. Well, damn. I'm always late to the party. But now that I've arrived, I'm having a blast. This is such a weird series, in a good way. I have no idea who the Red Man is, what he wants, or what's going to happen next. Hopefully I'll love this series as much as I do Attack on Titan.

This is the first manga I've read in...I don't know how long. Or at least the first I've read with the intention of actually finishing the entire series and not out of random boredom. My boyfriend started reading it and told me the synopsis and I was immediately extremely intrigued. I don't have much time to read so I figured I would try to watch the anime instead. I made it to episode 3 before I realized that it was absolutely pertinent that I also read the manga itself. The idea behind this an ...more
En definitiva es el manga más raroooooooooo que haya leído en toda mi vida, sin embargo me gustó mucho, espero leer los siguientes!!!!!
3.5 It was slow in the beginning but the oddness started to kick in about midway. This seems to fit in with Doubt, a dark and yet humorous manga... I'm not sure what to make of it exactly since not everything has been revealed yet. The prison concept was interesting (and I shouted PANOPTICON! when I saw it). The credits idea reminds me of the monetary system in Arata, but it was refreshing enough. Why I didn't rate this a 4 was also due to the drawing style, when I couldn't tell what was happeni ...more
Love it! Twisted background stories that each character carries and their mad mind! I always enjoyed something out of the ordinary.

Lots of action. Lots of blood. Interesting story, how everyone with differently personalities and differently skills all unite and become friends.

Keeps me on edge because of the action. Yes it does remind me of abit of battle royale but it is still good because I think its more than just killing for fun.

Not your usual bunch of good guys. Everyone is a sinner but th
I saw a commercial for deadman wonderland on adult swim and what I heard intrigued me so much that I marathoned the whole season on Netflix and it is gruesome, dark, depressing, gory, suspenseful,
And awesome.too bad that there wouldn't be a second season because not a lot of people watched it in Japan but I wanted more of this messed up world so I read the manga.=)
Ok so I'm done gushing now on to the plot. Ganta a fourteen year old boy is in class when he starts to hear a familiar song so he turns t
Wow, this manga had me hooked instantly. I went out of my way to find time to read this one, whether I was cooking, on a break at work or in the car waiting for the kids to finish school.

The intense graphics in this had my heart thudding hard as the story played out, devouring each page quickly. The main character, Ganta is such a little cutie, so innocent and soft hearted. But with a backbone of steel and head full of determination he manages to pull through every hurdle that is thrown at him.

10 years ago a massive earthquake left 70% of Tokyo buried underwater. Now Japan's only completely privatized prison, Deadman Wonderland, serves as both the nations' penitentiary for the worst-of-the-worst and as a source of income to fund the reconstruction of Tokyo.

Middle school student Ganta Igarashi is hanging out and chatting with classmates when a mysterious figure, bound in all manner of red chains and manacles, appears at their classroom window. The mysterious figu

Framed for the brutal murders of his classmates by the mysterious Red Man, middle-school student Ganta Igarashii finds himself sentenced to death in the bizarre and fatal theme park/prison known as “Deadman Wonderland.” The inmates of this insane penitentiary fight for survival every day to provide entertainment for the masses. Ganta is determined to survive Deadman Wonderland and clear his name, but the price may be his soul…

My Thoughts:

A couple of years ago, I watched the anime of thi
Ok, I really didn’t know what to expect when I got this for my brother, and since this was among my books that were piling up in my book box, I decided, why not, and grabbed it and started reading.

Well my first instinct on this short manga was the “what’s going on here” type of story; it was going very fast and only speeding up. So I decided to try and keep up as we follow the main character Ganta, who is accused of a horrid crime that’s beyond his nature.

Ganta is just a middle school kid hangin
Deadman Wonderland is a series that is so bloody and violent that it makes you wonder how in the world you have learned the lesson of never leave your friends. It's hard to read in the sense that it makes the reader uncomfortable with what happens to some of the characters. For example, I've had to put the book down multiple times when limbs start flying off. This series ruins childhoods with how innocent it seems with the nursery rhyme about the woodpecker but once it's repeated enough, the rea ...more
A teen, Ganta Igarashi, finds himself the lone survivor of the mass slaughter of his middle-school classmates. He alone saw the "red man" that laid waste to his peers. Needless to say, he is utterly shocked when he is accused and then convicted of the crime of killing all of his classmates. In this version of the future, Tokyo was previously destroyed by a giant earthquake, leaving the country devastated both functionally and economically. Somehow this lead to the construction of the first-ever, ...more
Take-Out Review: Gruesome directly to the point of necessity, illustrating the nature of the story's elements. It's a welcome kind of blood and guts. Without it, the story is viscerally lacking the truth of the brutality.

Much better plot and characters are here versus other manga of this nature. I deduct a star for having a supporting character, who is a guard of sorts in the prison, glibly tell a new inmate her bust size is G. What's up with manga and breasts? Freakish enough it's in the heads
Sweet lord this is heaven isn't it? If you like psychological, twisted gore then this is for you!
