This biography of the longest-reigning World Chess Champion (if you count from 1866, when he defeated the only real claimant) is difficult to evaluate. I'm very, very glad that it exists, but the writing of the main text is often amateurish, and the author is clearly not a chessplayer.

The author is, however, a great-grandnephew of the champion, and the great virtue of this biography is that a) it exists (there are only a couple of bios, and they're short, and mostly about the games) and b) the r
