Even though based on an event in Scottish history, this was actually readable since the dialect was kept to a minimum...and oh, yeah, there was a plot in there, too.
I was pretty disappointed with this book. It was interesting, but I didn't like how things resolved in the end, and I thought the characters lacked somewhat in personality.
I was pretty surprised because usually I like books by Walter Scott a lot more. However, it made more sense to me when I found out that Scott didn't finish it until after he had suffered a couple of strokes and that his mental capacity wasn't at all what it had been before, which I wish I had known before I started...more
