Susan Donovan is a writer who's very good at combining humor and romance. So when I pick up one of her books, I know she'll have me grinning and lift my spirits. "Girl Most Likely To..." surprised me. Not because it's not humorous, but because Donovan managed to inject her humor into a story that's quite touching and all about love and forgiveness.

A better-than-average contemporary romance, but still not enough to make the 4 star rating. Susan Donovan has written much better, but her fans will likely enjoy this one too.
It's a fast, light read about two re-united young lovers who had a child together. Only he never knew about his son, and they spent tweny years unsure what happened to each other as well as believing several falsehoods. The story begins twenty years after Kat left her small Virigina town 3-months pregnant, and a...more

I had such high expectation from this book because I really enjoyed every book Susan Donovan wrote so far but The Girl Most Likely To didn't have the humor that was a big part of other SD books and without the humor it just wasn't as good. The romance in the story wasn’t a big part of it and I felt like at some points the book was just too depressing.

The story was ok but not my preferred type of romance. This felt more like women’s fiction.
REVIEWER’S OPINION:
Yes, there was romance, but it was secondary to the theme of lying to others with tragic results. Good people lie and continue the lies for years with horrible, terrible results. A lot of different people do mean things to each other, which makes it hard to like them. The author had justifications for a lot of it. For example, Kat was raised in an abusive home whic...more

Well, if you read my review of Skylight Confessions then you'll understand why I picked up this silly little book. And it's not like I paid for it or anything -I got it from a friend. Really! Anyway, I figured I could use something light after my last book. And this book was light. In fact, you might not want to read it outdoors because the damn thing is so light it may just fly off like a helium balloon! This book is so silly it's almost not worth talking about. Except for the end. The e...more

The cover promises a light and funny read, which this most definitely was not. However, the main characters Kat and Riley, were very well drawn. The scenes between these two were nothing short of beautiful and if the book had been a short story with only those scenes, I'd have rated it 5 stars. Unfortunately, the other characters were all two-dimensional caricatures, the external conflict contrived and the ending predictable, which contributed to the overall 2 stars I am giving it.

First off, big ups to Holly for forcing me to read this book. I have so many books to read right now that I was going to save this book for a rainy day but for the past couple of days, Holly kept on bugging me to read it and I'm glad that I finally listened to her and picked it up.
I really enjoyed it.

Although this book had one of my favorite themes, -- (view spoiler)(but not much of one since you basically get it in the book's synopsis!) -- it definitely had an "up and down" influence on me. The length of time it went on was certainly a HUGE deterent for my having respect for the heroine. When my "logical/reality" way of thinking would invade my enjoyment of the story it made the whole thing too implausi...more

I love Susan Donovan's voice. She has an amazing presence on the page and fans of Rachel Gibson and Jennifer Crusie will love her, if they haven't discovered her already. I'm already planning to read something else from her backlist. However, I just couldn't get with this plot. Secret Babies plots just don't appeal to me right now, and I just couldn't get past heroine keeping the secret for 20 years. However, if secret babies aren't an annoyance for you, then you will love this book--it's fresh...more
A fairly classic small-town reunion/secrets story. It may not have had the most original storyline, but it was still rather enjoyable with good characters and romance and some interesting twists at the end. Like most books by Donovan, it was an easy, quick read.

I gave this book 4 stars, but it's really more like 3 and a half. The story started off really strong and I was loving the first half of the book, but it lost me right in the middle. Kat Cavanaugh left town when she was 16 after finding out that her father is having an affair, she's pregnant, and her boyfriend dumped her before she could tell him about the baby. Now it's 20 years later and she's back in town looking better than ever and determined to throw it in everyone's face ESPECIALLY her ex ...more
Kat finds herself pregnant, kicked out of school, dumped by her boyfriend, and kicked out of her house. Twenty years later she's out for revenge. She returns to her small hometown driving a Jaguar and wearing designer clothes. Little does she know that there are people she left behind who have their own axe to grind-especially her "baby's daddy." In the end, Kat learns that the truth shall set you free. She also learns that her life might not have been all she thought it was eithe...more
I liked this book as I usually do when reading Susan Donovan. Kat was strong with a purpose and just like real life her purpose had to change as thinks went on around her. I loved that her old boyfriend Riley never really backed down from her. I loved Riley's crazy-ex girlfriend Carrie in that she kept things interesting. Kat's family kept a lot of secrets. Even though this book was somewhat predictable, there were enough twists that really surprised me.
While this book certainly wasn't rocket science or brain candy, it was entertaining and a fun read. I enjoyed it. The characters were well written. Matt was a constant stream of comedic relief and I thoroughly enjoyed crazy Carrie. There were certainly many predictable moments, but there were many surprises as well. It was a lot of fun! I read it in all of 4 hours (in one sitting) and enjoyed every second of it.
Good story, Kat Cavanaugh lost the parent lottery. Is dumped by her Boyfriend, kicked out of her house by her parents and pregnant at 16, She has raised her son and is now rich. She is back to tell off everyone who
let her down or hurt her. But things don't go quite as planed....

Susan Donovan is always great, and this story of two cosmically meant for each other and no one else lovers is funny and touching and interesting - it's all about forgiveness. The sex is explicit (new vocabulary for body parts!) but it IS a contemporary romance, after all.
I'd probably give it closer to a 3.5 stars actually, but it was still pretty good and the best I've read of hers so far. Even though I'm not a huge fan of the past lovers/miscommunication/secrets storyline, it ended up being a good read and hard to put down.
I really liked this story. the characters were witty and caring. I found this author in the latest Lori Foster anthology and went looking for another one of her stories. It didn't disappoint. I'll be looking for more of her books.
First thing I noticed was that the books setting took place in WV (where I live) so thats one reason I picked up the book to read. The book had some funny parts, a pretty good read overall. Wasn't overally crazy on Virgil & Carrie they both need mental help..LOL!
I liked the story because the heroine learns so much about herself and her real motivations in life. The whole story was based on miscommunication and lies. Each character grew from the pain they had endured. I recommend.
I loved thus book! It had a cute plot and there were a few obstacles in the way of the main characters path to true love, but very touching. I enjoyed the humor and totally thought it was a good read.
Although I liked this book immensely, I would classify it more as what I think is "chick Lit". You know a romance with a message, and that message is the main focus of the story. Does that make sense?
Anyway this a good mix of "things aren’t always what they seem, things happen for a reason because there is no such thing as luck, and for god sakes tell the truth before it consumes you." I am not a huge fan of "chick lit", but I did like this book. I only...more

I enjoyed this book. It was light and quick (obviously). Didn't much care for the repetitive crazy people, but the basic story was a nice read.
These people made me cry. The scene with Aiden, Riley, and Kat in the kitchen. Holy cow. Powerful. This book was a sheer joy to read.
sometimes it's good to read an easy, mind-numbing romance. There's just enough smut and wonder to the ending. Nothing mind blowing, but pleasant to read.

Excellent! Watching the new-family dynamic was fascinating, and the newly-revealed family connection was a surprise.
