Living Your Strengths: Discover Your God-Given Talents and Inspire Your Community
While millions of people in the U.S. are actively involved in some sort of religious organization, many people feel disengaged from their faith communities. More than half report that they really don't get the opportunity in their congregation to do what they do best. The problem is this: too many people's talents are going unappreciated. But it doesn't have to be this way...more

Okay, I'll be frank. I bought this book as the recommendations were glowing. BUT if you have already taken the Clifton Strengths Finder, then 90% is basically a repeat of that book, "Now Discover your Strengths" or "strengthsFinder 2.0" Note also that thecode for the test does NOT include the 30 page or so report that 2.0 includes - A REAL DRAWBACK as the basic test doesn't seem that helpful IMHO, where the 30 page is very useful and worth the price of the book.

I get obsessive about things like this, but I really enjoyed taking this test and being able to talk about strengths with my husband, family and friends.
I absolutely love that the test is based on harnessing what is there and using it for good, rather than suppressing what is bad or trying to create what isn't. This is a life-philosophy I hope I never forget.

If you've ever wondered why you are the way you are, or why some things make you tick, then check this book out. I've often been frustrated helping out on committees, groups, and friends, only to realize that maybe those things were my niche while I'm trying to be helpful.
This book gave me a better understanding and put labels on ah ha moments and kind of a "why the way I am" idea. I recommend taking the online strengthsfinder quiz and follow-up with this book. Also a spiritual gifts assessment...more

Interesting Read - Got to admit that I got bit by the bug - after realizing that certain nuances are really talents in disguise - What really helped me was receiving coaching afterward.
Had read several of the Strengths books but the coaching/mirroring from a Strengths Certified coach really helped. Found out that you can also get certified as a Gallup Strengths Performance Coach (www.GallupFaith.com) or find a place/coach near you at www.StrengthsSummit.com

If you've ever thought that you weren't giving back as much as possible, you might want to give this book a shot. Based on the strengths finder test from Gallup, this book will provide a code to take the test. Once your strengths are identified, this book will show you how your strengths can help you worship and give back to your church and faith. Not everybody has to be an usher (unless your strengths appeal to that!) With this knowledge, I know I can contribute, and contribute in a manner that...more

This theory of living and the 34 types identified are interesting and valuable. However, this book is a 200 page informercial on how great the system is. I felt disappointed with the lack of depth. If you want that, you can sign up for $500+ seminars and individual coaching sessions. I'm taking a 6 week class regarding this system at my parish, and it looks to be interesting.
I thought the book was good, but the process is very interesting and has a lot of potential if it is actually used for a purpose. I'm on staff at a Catholic Parish using this to help grow the Church and engage members. This is used as a companion to Growing an Engaged Church. We have a trained 'coach' in our diocese who is helping us to put this into practice.
If you are familiar with any of the other strengths texts... They are simply better. This Christianized version stretches various scriptures in attempts to make them fit within one of the signature themes. The book did not need to be written but rather capitalizes on the "Christian" market afraid to buy anything not overtly faith based.
I find it interesting that the 3 people who wrote it all worked for Gallup. It shows. They have a deep understanding of group psychology. You get a code to take an online evaluation which follows the lines of Meyers-Briggs, but with a church slant. It gives people a new vocabulary to talk about their way of relating to each other and their church.

Not great. I found the template bretty boring and the scripture references particularly aggravating--prooftexting talents, is that what we've come to? It's very individualistic; I would have liked some material on how the themes work together to strengthen teams, but I suppose you buy the followup book for that.

This book was so very insightful! How interesting to find out that something that I thought was a weakness was actually a strength in disguise in my life. It's changed how I look at my natural tendencies when interacting with others! I'd suggest this to anyone, Christian or not.

Catholic Edition of an Excellent book about a wonderful tool to help anyone grow in self knowledge! CliftonStrengthsFinder is probably my favorite tool of all I've used because it is based on Pauline Theology and stresses living out of our strengths.

The book includes taking an strength assessment online that gives you your top 5 strengths. A very positive look at your God given talents and how you are using them in your life. We are using this in our church to help engage people and build a stronger community.
There is another version entitled Strengthfinders which is not faith based. I am getting my whole family to find our their strengths.

“At an early age, you started hearing it: It's a virtue to be "well-rounded."... They might as well have said : Become as dull as you possibly can be.”
