The summer has been unnaturally warm at the Isle of Berk, but despite persistent Omens of Doom, the worst of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III's worries is to not make a complete fool of himself during the Pirate Training Program. Throw in Toothless, Hiccup's disobedient dragon who has a knack for trouble, and his evil cousin, Snotface Snoutlout, and you have a recipe for almost certain disaster.

However, things change from embarra More...

So, my mind's not really in optimal review state right now, because:

a. Someone took out all the sticky tab markers I had put in to remind myself what parts I wanted to touch on, which has filled me with RAEG.
b. I had oral (heh) surgery this morning and am in a bit of pain, and
c. The pain med I took has some extreme drowsy-making side effects. My eyes keep closing...

But I will try my bestest.

First, a disclaimer. I'm well aware that I'm the only pers More...

The book deviates from the usual HHH formula — Hiccup shares a spotlight with a hero, Humongous; This installment will seem convoluted when you expect the usual HHH fare. Toothless is still an annoying little dragon. He alternates between ruining Hiccup and making him victorious. Vanity can really be a problem.

There are very weak points (read:plot devices.) Nevertheless, this volume is quite good for several reasons:

1) Cowell vamps up the environment factor this time. More...

I love how ridiculous these books are. Hiccup is always going on mad adventures he doesn't really want to go on, but has to, and he drags along his friends and his dragon and somehow, things turn out all right. I am also horribly fond of Stoick, who does love his son, but completely misunderstands him (it doesn't help that Stoick is not terribly bright either, haha). The kicker in this book would have to be <spoiler>the appearance of Alvin, who is still alive, but now missing an eye and th More...

This book is the fifth installment in the How to Train Your Dragon books, and the fifth funny story of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third, heir to the Tribe of Hairy Hooligans.
I liked this book because we learn more about the characters, and their pasts, especially Old Wrinkly (Hiccup's grandfather.) and a host of new characters.

4 kurang dikit.

selalu menyenangkan membaca kisah2 hiccup. meskipun kelebihan dan kekurangan tokoh2nya agak hiperbola, tapi selalu menarik dan lucu.

tokoh terbaru kali ini adalah mantan pahlawan sepanjang masa, dengan masa lalu yang bertalian dengan hiccup. jago pedang, jago kapak, jago panah, gagah dan tampan, trendsetter, dengan suara yang luar biasa. pokoknya idola pada masanya. ilustrasi gambarnya mengingatkan pada "men in tights" (atau "men in spandex?) Well, this one was not as good as the others, in my opinion. I read the books aloud to my 8-year old daughter, and on this one we both had a harder time with the plot. It got a bit too convoluted through much of it and just didn't hold our interest as much as the other books in the series have. Still enjoyed the book, but just not the caliber of the others. I thought the Epilogue and the part about the bracelet were lovely, though. To my daughter, I don't think they meant a lot, but to me, More...

Hiccup is meeting Alvin again in this book. They are really eternal rival. The scale of danger Hiccup faces is also increased in this book but the good luck and many coincidence also happen in Hiccup side and help him win at the end.

What I like from How to Train Your Dragon series is the hero, Hiccup, who is always an underdog at the beginning but becoming hero at the end. Although he was hero in previous book, in a new book Hiccup always show us how weak he is but then once again he b More...

Quite the nail-biter! A tale of Heroes and heartbreak and a reminder that good and evil are intertwined.

I have to ask the parents out there: how do the kiddies respond to these bittersweet epilogues? After the happy ending of the main story, these somber moments of reflection provide such a contrast. I do love them, though, and I can't wait to see what mess Hiccup falls into next.

Of all the books I've read so far, for some reason I didn't enjoy this one as much as the others. Having said that, I still recommend that you read this series. Thoroughly enjoyable, especially one scene where Hiccup falls into the midst of the very tribe he is trying to steal the-vegetable-that-must-not-be-named from. Hilarious!

I liked this one a bit more than the last couple. Finding out a bit about Hiccup's Mom for a change was one of my favorite parts. :D Hotshot is great fun & a nice addition to the characters. I also got a chuckle out of his one weakness, especially as I'm listening to these books in audio form, read by David Tennant. LOL

Love this series. I'm so glad somebody told me about it. The overall story is about "Becoming a Hero the Hard Way" and that says it all. Each book advances Hiccup's growth while standing alone as a single adventure, so the books work very well as a series and individually, even if you read them out of order. Fun reading for kids and adults.

More outrageous and funny adventures of the Viking Hero, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third, and his friends. This time out they try to stop a volcano from erupting. Sounds impossible but this is Hiccup we are talking about so you know it happens, but the adventure is in the how he and his friends do it.

Tetap bikin ngakak.

If you like dragons and fantasy like me. Then I would recommend you guys "How to Twist a Dragon's Tale" by Cressida Cowell. This book is about a boy name Hiccup going out to save a volcano from exploding. Will he be able to succeed or will he fail?

I never knew this series was so interesting. Especially bc Alan the treacherous returns. I don't know when he will meet his end. He mysteriously seems to escape death. I hope he ends after a long time though. I don't want this series to end so fast.
