An interesting book, but I felt there should have been one more chapter on the ordinary nineteenth and twentieth century women gardeners, the ones that couldn't afford gardeners and nursery grown plants, the ones that had small plots of less than an acre, often much less, but still did their bit of growing.
Needs better editing to tighten structure to get rid of repetitions and spelling and grammatical errors. Also there are quite a number of historical inaccuracies.

I am still digesting this book so it may get another star sometime in the future. This book is just chuck full of facts, little insights, names, dates and just so much information that I found it both fascinating and frustrating to read. That aside I thought it was a really interesting read and would recommend it to any one who has an interest in gardening!

What a fascinating and entertaining read. I appreciated the way the author covered vast swathes of history and hit upon several garden-related topics of great interest to me (eg. women botanical artists & plant explorers). The author's focus centres on British women, which I quite enjoyed.
