The premise of this book is delightfully nasty--a woman's unfaithful husband is dying, so she gets out his little black book and invites his "sweethearts" to come have their turn at his deathbed. And certainly it has its ultimate revenge (and rather funny) kind of moments. But what happens is far different from what it seems would. Some of these women begin to form a family of their own, helping each other through the problems that drove them to Ar More...

This was a quick read, pretty light despite the not-light setup. Lucy is still struggling to deal with her husband's infidelity and contemplating divorce, when she finds out he is in grave health and won't live long. She ends up contacting some of his exes, both from before their marriage and during. The book brings up some very interesting topics about fidelity, love, family, forgiveness, and grief. Despite that, it doesn't dwell, isn't trying to be a tear-jerker, and in the end is life-aff More...

Reasonably well written chick lit, with an irresistible hook: the cheating husband is dying, and the cheated upon wife decides to invite all his former sweethearts to take a turn at his deathbed. What starts out as an effort at revenge turns into a life changing interlude, as Lucy the wife learns more about her soon to be late husband, and herself. Of course, she finds true love and a new family out of the ashes of this potentially devastating situation. A quick entertaining read.

Lucy is separated from her husband because he had cheated on her multiple times. So when word comes that he is dying she struggles with very complicated emotions as she returns to their home. Once there, she decides that she should not be the only one feeling this way, so she calls up all the women in her husband's little black book to have them come visit him and relate his role in their lives as well. What she doesn't expect is that she will come to like these women and form her own family w More...

Oh jeez. A 1 or 2 star? I almost went with 2 but then remembered that I skipped quite a few chapters and HATED the ending. Yup. It's a 1 star.

The 2 stars was contemplated because it had fantastic potential! What a story (I will skip the synopsis, you can read 30 others in the time it would take for me to write something original...and that would inevitable be my opinion which is why we write these reviews *as opposed to the more common synopsis*). Each character started with More...

I really liked this book. While the story is pretty unbelievable, the characters are all different but come together to make the story enjoyable. A good read, not your typical "chick lit".

I love this book.

30 something Lucy's cheating, charmer and estranged husband Artie (who is 18 yrs her senior) is dying. Lucy can't decide whether she loves him or hates him but decides to be with him as his time comes to an end. But she feels she shouldn't have to do it alone so she pulls out Artie's little black book and calls her "husbands sweethearts" to take turns sitting by his bedside. A broad spectrum of characters come through the door and the drama ensues...

This isn't my normal genre of books, but I have to say I really enjoyed this one. It tells the story of Lucy and Artie. Artie is dying and Lucy comes home to care for him. She had left him six months earlier because she found out he was cheating on her. When she comes home she ends up getting drunk, grabs Artie's "Little Black Book" and starts calling his "sweetheart" so they can schedule their time at his bedside. Lucy is very surprised when women start showing up. Things r More...

I thoroughly enjoyed this quick read! I felt the premise was a very interesting one. Love isn't just for one person and often we do not understand what motivates a person to love others until we put ourselves in their place and find out more about who those other people really are. Often we find love in the least likely places and how can we turn away from it. Family can also be found through deeper understanding and acceptance of who people are. Life is often messy and there is no black an More...

A plot synopsis reads like a Lifetime-movie-gone wrong: Lucy’s discovery of her husband’s infidelities is followed quickly by discovering he’s dying. Accepting a sarcastic challenge from her husband, Artie, Lucy calls the women in his little black book.

All that’s needed at the end is “hilarity ensues” to place My Husband’s Sweethearts into the growing genre of books to be read in Laundromats or on airplanes and then left behind, completely forgotten.

Except that doesn’t h More...

Premise sounds silly and you might think that it is another book about how men don't measure up. A woman leaves her husband to go on a series of business trips when she finds out he has been cheating on her and she doesn't want to deal with her emotions. She returns 6 months later when she finds out he is dying, then deciding that she shouldn't have to be there for all the bad parts when his "sweethearts" have enjoyed only the good times she calls them up for a turn at his bedside. This book would make a great movie, it has comedy, betrayal, love, family and a great cast of characters.

Lucy discovers her husband is cheating on her, runs away only to return when he is dying. Still feeling betrayed she calls all of her husband sweethearts for as she says " Artie's sweethearts were there for the good times - is it fair that Lucy should have to manage the hard times herself?" Surprisingly they all come and Lucy begins to understand forgiveness, healing, l More...

A nice quick "chick lit" book. Lucy, is married to Artie but left him when she found out he was cheating. Now Artie is dying and Lucy comes back to care for him although she can't quite forgive him. She takes his little black book and does some "drunk dialing", calling his "sweethearts" as she thinks it is unfair they were there in the good times and not the bad. To her surprise, some of them start showing up. About love, friendship and family, both the one that you More...

An interesting premise....a wife trying to deal with her husband's infidelity and approaching death due to illness. She thinks it unfair that he has cheated on her (several times) and yet she has to be the one to take care of him as he is dying.

His suggestion is to hand her his address book and tell her to "call his sweethearts" which she does and she invites them to "take a turn at his deathbed."

It's cute so far and an original story.

This book was interesting enough--I've never read anything with quite this premise--but it didn't quite succeed for me. The author was trying to straddle a line between humor and poignancy and didn't quite make it with either. Some of the characters were funny: Lucy's mother was a hoot (and the reader did a wonderful job with her voice) but most of the humor fell a little flat for me. My biggest problem, though, was with the basic premise. I understand Lucy feels betrayed by Artie, but I think w More...

This one is slow going...there is only so much kvetching and whining I can take in one sitting. When the book begins, it's been months since she found out about his philandering and took to constant work travel, so they've effectively been separated. And yet, she hasn't managed to come to grips with anything at all. The narrative seesaws between Artie-love and Artie-hate, with her confusion and self-loathing at even having the Artie-love moments...

This was a bittersweet story. Humorous yet sad. I think my favorite character was that of Artie's maybe son, John Bessom. I liked his interactions with Lucy, where they talked about Artie. As for the rest of the characters I wish I had gotten to know them better, I didn't feel like I knew that much about most of them besides one of the sweethearts, Elspa. Since the story is told from Lucy's perspective I found myself actually forgetting her name. I would have liked to see more interactions betwe More...

My Husband’s Sweethearts by Bridget Asher was the book that kept me company poolside as my kids swam this week, and it was good company indeed. Asher’s writing style reminds me a little of Marisa de los Santos, who has a blurb on the front cover of my ARC copy. While Asher may not have quite as unique a voice as de los Santos, or be quite as polished an author, her characters are fully drawn, quirky, and will make you love them.

Lucy Shoreman’s husband Artie is a cheater. When Lucy learns this she confronts him only to have him confess there have been two other affairs during their four year marriage. To cope with Artie’s infidelity Lucy leaves home and immerses herself in work for six months to deal with his betrayal. What a wonderful book. It opens with Lucy finding out that her husband is dying. The husband who recently admitted to at least three affairs during their marriage. When Lucy returns home, it is under duress and she is not happy. When her husband, Artie, suggests that she call up all of his old sweethearts for help, Lucy unexpectedly takes him up on the offer.
What follows is a journey for everyone involved, Lucy, her mother, two of his ex-sweethearts and, marginally, Artie himself.

Well, I suppose this was a book I wasn't really in the mood for... I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. Anything about losing a husband just now is not what I want to read! (I'm in the mood for a good historical fiction or yardening-for-dummies or something...)

That said, I did think that Asher is a good writer. Her story was well thought out; her characters were believable; you laughed, you cried, even though it wasn't a feel-good story. There was of course the inevitable More...

I wasn't sure I would like it, given the premise, but I enjoyed Brigit Asher's The Provence Cure for the Broken Heart" so much I knew I should give this book more than a cursory glance. While not overtly funny, the concept is witty, and the reader is soon lured into the tale. I found myself enjoying it. Nearing the end, I decided it would make a good movie (what book of hers wouldn't?)- a drama. So many lives touched by the life of one lout, everyone brought together by his actions, no matt More...

I'd very much like to give this more than 3 stars- I think it's just shy of 4 stars IMO really.
I really loved the characters- all of them were drawn up beautifully- with so many different people coming in and out of the main characters life I thought it would be difficult, to say the least, for Asher to come up with "real" side characters. I had nothing to worry about in the end. Elspa and Eleanor were amazing and John couldn't have been written better at all.

I loved this book! Lucy discovers that her charming, affable husband has been cheating on her. Then she finds out he has a terminal disease. How she copes with the knowledge of his other women and the ways in which she comes to terms with his need for love and forgiveness forms a totally unique story.
I thought that this would be an "all men are jerks" book but it is not like that at all. It is warm, humorous, and a joy to read.

Well this was a fun surprise--very good read with lively characters--none too perfect and none horribly flawed, fluffy stuff in many respects and some predictable plot elements, but a decent amount of depth of emotion, a bit of personal growth. Perhaps I liked it because my expectations were low (based on title/premise), but I think there was also a sincerity to the entire story and I did have trouble putting it down.
