This Christian Chick-lit novel is about what you'd expect from the genre--a quick sweet read, with a splash of romance and some religion thrown in. Lexi is from Seattle and works for a French family-owned bakery. They send her to France for a year to study at a famous culinary school, and to work in their bakery there. She leaves behind Dan, an attorney to whom she is beginning to become attached. While in France she becomes close to Phillipe, one of the owning family, and his young daughter. Th More...

Bon Appetit reads like a memoir but is a light and entertaining work of fiction about an aspiring chef from Seattle who travels to France to work in bread and pastry bakeries in the village of Presque le Chateau. Throw in some recipes, descriptions of trips to Paris and Versailles, a budding love affair that could turn into a love triangle, and you have a Bon Appetit of a book!

I copied the recipes for french Onion Soup and Simple Apple Galettes and promised myself to try them. There More...

Light fare for chicks, riddled with erroneous French expressions, but still enjoyable to read. A young baker from Seattle trades job with a French woman for a year, to study at a prestigious Parisian baking school and to work at a couple of boulangeries. A fresh, credible story wends its ways through hackneyed cliches of the American moving to France, finding first isolation and culture abysses but eventually some balance and delicate romance. Best of all, the female character is Christian; she i More...

Bon Appétit is the second novel of the French Twist series by Sandra Byrd. Lexi Stuart is working at a French bakery while also attending school. She finds out that she has to graduate with honors to keep working at one of her employer's bakeries. During her school, she completely botches her first cooking assignment, but she doesn't understand how she could have weighed out the ingredients wrong. Along the way, some of the students’ cooking seems to be sabotaged by a fellow student. While More...

I found this book more enjoyable than the first, faith-wise (sorry as that is not really a word) as Lexi continues to grow in her walk. Reading the book of John through the eyes of a chef gave me a new perspective, and I was challenged in my own walk to have a growing daily hunger. As a Francophile, I also really enjoyed Lexi actually realizing her dream and living in France--yeah Lexi!--and visiting the places I have always wanted to go see. Once again, this book will make you crave the good More...

Fun book to read about a girl who fulfills her dream to go to France and goes there to study pastry making and working in a pastry shop. She leaves a serious suitor behind with no strings and goes off on her dream. The beginning is filled with anxiety and loneliness as she embarks on her journey, but she makes friends through doing her job day in and day out. She entertains romance and experiences a growth promoting experience. The book has some serious Christian themes which I enjoyed and found More...

Bon Appetit is the second book in the French Twist series, and continues the adventures of Lexi. In this book she travels to a city right outside Paris and attends a cooking school there while working in the family bakery of her previous boss from Seattle, Luc. It was nice reading this again after having the background from the first book. It was actually enjoyable and could be read either way, but background info is always nice.

While Lexi is in France she meets Phillipe and his daught More...

Bon Appetit officially releases September 16 so if this review whets your appetite you are in for a literary--and culinary treat. I do not know many novels which make your mouth literally water for the delectable French pastries the leading lady creates, but how could it be otherwise when full recipes for delectable desserts and breads are incorporated throughout the story? (Lexi is even on AllRecipes for those who want more!)

From page one it was, as I confessed to Sandra, "so m More...

second book in the series. This is about her time in france while she is working at the french bakery and taking classes they paid for her to take. She meets one of the bakers--from the family who is a widow and has a 10 year old girl. They start to do things together, which makes her confussed because there is a man in seattle waiting for her. at the end of the book she has to choose if she wants to stay in france to work or move back to seattle to work at the new shop they are opening up.

Not often that this happens, but I found the second book of the French Twist series better than the first! Byrd really gets into the French baking in this one, which leaves the reader hungry and inspired to bake!

The journey that Lexi goes through really does speak to just about every twenty-something woman who is trying so hard to figure out what's going on with her life while still trying to stay connected to God in all the hubbub. This story is just as good for the soul as it is f More...

Okay, I have gone and done it. I read Christian Chick Lit, something I always thought myself too snobby to do and THEN ended up liking it. As literature it cannot even hold a candle to Willa Cather or the like, but as feel good medicine it does a great job. It's a sweet story with endearing characters that can quickly cure what ails you.

Lexi Stuart is an American in France going to pastry school. She must master the art of bread baking and pastries while battling homesickness, a pastry saboteur, feelings for her ex, feelings for a Frenchman, her job, and making new friends.
This is actually the seoond book in a series and I'm looking forward to reading the others.

Very cute book and an easy read. The characters were easy to understand, and it was lighthearted. A nice break from the usual. There were more religious references than I normally appreciate, but it wasn't overwhelming. Once again, I enjoyed reading the French phrases!

Good premise, but it just didn't hold my attention and I couldn't get a good feel for the characters. This is the second book featuring these characters so I wonder if I would like it better if I read the first book.

Very good, much better than the last! I really like this one. I kinda like Philippe better but Dan is cool too. Lindsey thanks for recommending this series to us! I heard that Sandra Byrd is coming out with a new series this summer! And she is going to come out with the last book to the French Twists series called Oui! Oui! Oui! :) Can't wait to read the next book! :)

Second book in series, not my favorite, but still enjoyable. She is in Paris in this one learning to cook at a school and working for the Paris company as well. There are some lulls.

I thought this book was really Comical. It's about a girl who moves from america to france to become a professional pastry chef. She has a lot of big choices to make like stay in france or go back to america. This book also has a couple of good recipes as well.

An easy, fast read that leaves one with a good feeling. I'd be tempted to argue for a strong 3.5 rating, but the book was a little too preachy in some places, for my taste.

This book could have been so much better. It seemed to be to much we went here, we did this, and not enough character development. The story ended up being really boring with no real outcome to the character's struggles. I know there is another book in the series and this one could have read like an individual book instead of a series except that the ending makes you feel like you need another book just to hear what she decides about he love life and yet, it is boring enough that I wouldn't r More...
