These 3 have to be read in order (as in the title). These books describe a 12 year old who lives in a small town (think Scout from To Kill a Mockingbird)and tries to solve a 40 year old mystery. In fact, it's a story of a 12 year old going on adulthood.

Recommends it for: Anyone who loves mysteries and laughing out loud

I first read Paradise Hotel in or around 2000. Then one day I found the next installment, Cold Flat Junction and picked it up and then, of course, I found Belle Ruin in a pile of books on sale.

These books have Emma Graham (I love her) trying to solve the myster of life and the 40 year old mysteries of murder, kidnapping and greed. This is an adult book, but you'll revel in Emma's honesty (to herself only) and laugh out loud at her helplessness in trying to turn back the clock and not be "13".

This is an enjoyable trip down memory lane with a 12 year old detective who is older than her years. Eveyone should have a mysterious old house in the mist to discover.
