Mozart redeemed mankind. These earthlings are up to no good. They never were. I'm afraid they will never be. However, the humanling widely know as Mozart redeemed their civilization. His music is remarkable and no God or Godling or alienling or zombieling would dare suggest otherwise. This Dostoyevsky person is not too shabby either. His writing is very pleasing. It's complex without being hard to read. It's dark without being untrue. I must confess I rather like his work. This particular book le

Dostoyevsky perfectly balances self-reflection and plot. As the story unfolds, a very sincere realization occurs with both reader and narrator.
The narrator has always been a ridiculous man, however, by the end of the story/dream, the definition and perception of what is ridiculous changes. Interestingly, rereading the narrator's exposition I see this effect in place, although I was very unaware of it at first.

Short and sweet, this small story detailing an itimate dream from Dostoevsky is pretty bold in it's honesty, but also an interesting portrait of his mind. I'm not familiar with a lot of his other work, but I appreciated the backwards approach this story takes, assuming the reader will not be able to relate, yet telling the story because it needed to be told.

this work was my initiation into Dostoevsky..I laughed just reading the title..this work was (amazingly enough) funny and serious at the same time..serious in a philosophical way..like a person who suffers from ennui and this work is a depiction of the paradise he desires and how it is corrupted.

Absolutely gorgeous.
I have more written about it here at my book blog, but suffice it to say, this was absolutely gorgeous.
The quality of the Audible audiobook was kind of eh, though.

“For I have seen the truth; I have seen and I know that
people can be beautiful and happy without losing the power of living
on earth. I will not and cannot believe that evil is the normal
condition of mankind.”
A very short and interesting dream, this man is really a genius.

This morning in class(!) I misread the text on some kid's shirt as being a book title (Being and Time, in fact) and thought about how strange it would be if people wore shirts advertising their favorite books instead of their favorite bands. Unless people actually do that...I'm pretty sure I've never seen it. That would be really pretentious.
Why would a book shirt seem more pretentious than a band shirt? Is it because reading requires literacy and/or some form of intelligence, and all mus More...

"I know that people can be beautiful and happy without losing their ability to dwell on this earth. I will cannot and will not believe that evil is a man's natural state"
I felt this is one of the best works of Fyodar Dostoyevsky.
Brilliantly written..!!
I hope everyone on this earth becomes a 'Ridiculous man' :)

Dostoevsky's philosophical preoccupations in a nutshell; a concentrated and explicit exploration of everything that underpins his longer works. Enthralling, to be sure, but in the end I didn't find the character's spiritual movement compelling.

In the secondary school class, I heard my teacher said something about Dostoevsky and his famous books; the The Brothers Karamazov and Crime and Punishment. However, it was nothing more than one more thing I had to remember for the examination.
Many years later, I found this book in the box for outlet. I chose this one because it was not too long, and I thought I could finish it quickly. It turned out to me to be very fascinating. It reminded me and helped me solve jigsaws that were More...

Philosophical, written by a man in psychological despair, in spite of his education, his 'faith' in science prevented him from the joys of normal day to day love and joy and sharing with his fellow man.

I was left wondering which one was dryer, the story itself or its translation. I will read it again when i decide to commit suicide.

Brilliant! Love his work! Reclusive narcissist living in a meaningless world attempts suicide and receives redemption.
