About a Dragon (The Dragon Kin #2)
by
G.A. Aiken
For Nolwenn witch Talaith, a bad day begins with being dragged from bed by an angry mob intent on her crispy end and culminates in rescue by-wait for it-a silver-maned dragon. Existence as a hated outcast is nothing new for a woman with such powerful secrets. The dragon, though? A tad unusual. This one has a human form to die for, and knows it. According to dragon law, Tal...more

Once again this author has had me laughing so hard I'm practically rolling on the floor. The constant hilarity, the one liners, and the sheer craziness of this family of dragons cracks me up! The over the top zaniness of the dragons and their antics is a nice change of pace from my regular reading. Every once in a while I just want to sit down with a book that is meant to be pure entertainment. I want to howl with laughter and torture my husband by reading scenes to him. This series fits th...more
G.A. Aiken's Dragon Kin series is both funny and sexy; two things that are actually very hard to do well together! These first two books are actually reprints of her original Samhain Publishing books. I had read the originals in e-book format, but was thrilled when I found out they were releasing them in mass market paperback so I could add them to my print library! (Cause I obviously don't already have enough books!) Laurenston's humor is sardonic and witty...and rather earthy and gritty too,...more

Yet another SL book that I loved! Okay I must admit though it did tend to go on and on and on a bit... but... Still loved the humour I loved the dynamics of the brothers and how they realate to those "piddly pathetic humens"
I also think Im in love with Ebhear the Blue... adorable! Where do I get my own dragon!

This was too FUNNY!!!
The siblings were all together and you got to see them interact.
I laughed out loud at a lot of the lines in the story. The way the book ended makes you want to read the next book right away. Luckily after that book, the next one comes out soon. Can't wait!

Just ok, nothing special. I had problems with plot development.

This book was about Beric the Mighty/Arrogant and Talaith. Beric would like to experience some of the happiness his brother Fearghus has found with the human Annwyl and decides to take a human for himself. He is convinced that saving the witch Talaith from being hung in the town square means he owns her…until he’s though with her anyway. Beric can’t seem to understand, however, why the little witch won’t submit to him.

So I dont know what to say, these dragons leave me speechless but I will say this. As much as this book is funny and the main characters are always fighting between each other and family, I love the female characters of this series. I am not one for very strong females, my type of heroines are usually pretty and submissive but hands down these woman are absolutely the stongest and fiercest group of females. They are not trying to be they just are and THAT is what I love about them. It's not a th...more
I don't know. I just don't know.
At first, during the initial two chapters, I thought "Wow! This is much better than the last one!" and then it just went the same direction. They argued constantly. Only this time it was treated as "positive" because arguing turned them on. Well, I found it to be tedious.

Arrogant dragons who seriously annoy their ladies-of-choice... Who knew? This series of Shelley Laurenston's is frequently fall out of your chair funny...

Briec the Mighty just about had the market cornered on sheer unadulterated arrogance. Even for a royal dragon, he was considered arrogant, and that was saying something. Everything was beneath him and utterly boring, except the beautiful human he found in a small village. She refused to acknowledge his greatness and that intrigued him. Coming back for a second look at the human, Briec discovers his prize about to be hanged for a witch. Well he’s not about to let the human die until he’s convince...more
The second in G.A. Aiken's Dragon Kin series and is the love story of Talatih, a Nolwenn Witch and Briec the Mighty. A dragon, no less.
It's not strictly necessary to read the first book; Dragon Actually as this story will stand on its own, but it would certainly make things easier in understanding who the other characters, such as Annwyl, Fearghus, Morfyd and Brastias are and how they relate.
But whether you do or don't, it doesn't detract from this love story of a sassy witch...more

About a Dragon is a brilliant second book that continues the Dragon Kin story in the same style as the first book.
Although this book is mainly about the story of Briec,Talaith and how their romance develops, I love the way each family member of the Dragons and their love interests are entwined in the story. There are many threads within the book that you can see will develop as the Dragon Kin story unfolds. All the characters are brilliantly written and each have their quirks which...more

This is the tale of Briec the Mighty who came down off his lofty perch and rescued a woman about to be hanged by her townspeople. Though he usually cant be bothered with the dealings of humans- he cant stand injustice, so he rescues her despite her insistence she needs no rescuing. Ignoring her protestations, he takes her away with him, although her dragonfhear is making her skittish and looking for a chance to run away as fast as she can.

Didn't like this one quite as much as the first book. It was good, but there were a lot of sub plots and I kept thinking, ok this is the end, and than some other disaster would happen!

Mystical gods, witches and dragons, fighting for love and power.I loved the smart mouth strong and independent warrior women, fight along side their dragons/men. No pretty pampered princesses in this book. The men/dragons are of course very handsome alpha males, who have a lot to learn when dealing with strong women. Which of course they had problems doing.

Hot, hysterical and heartwarming pretty much sums of this second installment in the Dragon Kin series. This dysfunctional dragon family is growing in size as the brothers and sisters find their mates, and some new characters are introduced. The book’s main focus is on Briec and Talaith, but you get plenty of time with all the characters, old and new. That’s what makes it so much fun, everyone is involved.

Not as funny as the first one, but more than funny enough. I really like the dragon family, and their complete out of touchness with everything human. Briec The Mighty was so full of himself and convinced of his own ways he was completely endearing.
I liked the overall plotline as well, and the crumbles laid down for later storylines.
I do hope that Izzy ends up with Éibhear in a later installment. I think he's my favorite dragon.

Shelly Laurenston's other series, filled with sarcastic one-liners and women who are more than a match for the dragons who are not used to dealing with humans but become inexplicably attached to these females. Talaith is a Nolwenn witch who has been tasked with a world changing mission but she becomes sidetracked when a silver dragon named Briec rescues her from being burned at the stake. This is the second book in the series that I've purchased, and I loved this as much as the first. I don't think any hero I've encountered has been as arrogant, yet somehow loveable as Briec. He's a dragon shifter who has never had much use for humans, and doesn't know a thing about interacting with them on a personal level. He rescues Talaith, a witch, expecting her to be grateful and serve him in any way he sees fit, instead she'd rather annoy him to death. This story also includes a lot of int...more

This author is also known as Shelly Laurenston, and I LOVE everything she writes. The books she writes under this name are traditional fantasty, under Laurenston, they are urban/contemporary fantasy. I don't understand why she's not on the top ten best sellers list yet - really, I find these books addictive.

I am enjoying this series so far, this entry more than the first one. While I do not find the books roll on the floor laughing like a lot of people seem to, I do get a chuckle here and there, and that is a nice change. Well done story, lots of action and drama, a few surprises, and good characters made this book a very good read. I like Briec...although anyone with his attitude in real life would not be a joy to be around. Talaith's screeching could get a bit annoying sometimes, but I was ab...more

“Take deep slow breaths,” it told her. “It will calm you.”
Calm her? Slow breaths? Instead she sucked in a breath to tell it to
go to hell, but ended up sending her late-night snack spewing across the
dragon’s foot.
Staring down, it muttered, “Oh, that’s just vile.”
Talaith’s eyes narrowed and suddenly she found her voice. “And yet, I

“This wasn’t what she expected. Never, in her wildest dreams. This... this was the Blood Queen of Garbhán Isle? Scourge of the Madron lands? Destroyer of Villages? Demon Killer of Women and Children? She who had blood pacts with the darkest of gods? This was Annwyl the Bloody?
Talaith watched, fascinated, as Annwyl held onto Morfyd the Witch’s wrists. Morfyd — the Black Witch of Despair, Killer of the Innocent, Annihilator of Souls, and all around Mad Witch of Garbhán Isle or so she was called on the Madron lands — had actually tried to sneak up on Annwyl to put ointment on the nasty wound the queen had across her face. But as soon as the warrior saw her, she squealed and grabbed hold of her. Now Annwyl lay on her back, Morfyd over her, trying her best to get Annwyl to stop being a ten year old.
“If you just let me—”
“No! Get that centaur shit away from me, you demon bitch!”
“Annwyl, I’m not letting you go home to my brother looking like that. You look horrific.”
“He’ll have to love me in spite of it. Now get off!”
...
“Ow!”
“Crybaby.”
No, this isn’t what Talaith expected. Annwyl the Blood Queen was supposed to be a vicious, uncaring warrior bent on revenge and power. She let her elite guard rape and and pillage wherever they went, and she used babies as target practice while their mothers watched in horror. That’s what she was supposed to be and that’s what Talaith expected to find. Instead, she found Annwyl. Just Annwyl. A warrior who spent most of her resting time reading or mooning over her consort. She was silly, charming, very funny, and fiercely protective of everyone. Her elite guard, all handpicked by Annwyl, were sweet, vicious fighters and blindingly loyal to their queen.”
