Cynthia Eden has mixed a few genres to come up with this interesting paranormal romance/crime series. Her supernatural world is populated by all kinds of beings, and yet - just as with the first book - she does an excellent job of explaining her world without making us read information dumps. The second book follows a serial killer investigation and the developing relationship between police detective Todd Brooks who was in the first book, and supernatural Cara Maloan, who we met only briefly be...more
Looking for sex? Lots of hot, M/F paranormal sex? Check out "Midnight Sins" by Cynthia Eden and that's what you'll fin. You'll also find a pretty nice plot with suspense and action too. I think this is the second book in her erotic paranormal series, but you certainly don't need to have read the first as I haven't...yet.

I have to say, after reading the first in this series. I wasn't expecting to like Midnight Sins so much, but this book was different for me for a few reasons:
a] there seemed to be much more focus on the starring couple in the story and their romance,
b] that romance was leaping off the page, and
c] the hero in this case, Todd Brooks, was a very strong, passionate character who never leaves us in doubt that he cares for the heroine (a departure from many novel...more

Really nice read.
I liked the first volume in the mini-series ("Hotter After Midnight") quite well and kept this author on my watching list; the first volume was about a psychotherapist treating supernaturals in trouble: vampires afraid of blood, succubi wanting true love intead of sex and so on, and I found this idea hilarious and liked the fresh approach. (see my review there)

I liked this story one star more than the first in the series, Hotter After Midnight, because my issue with the first book was resolved in this one.
This story is about Cara Maloan, a succubus who is not interested in preying on the lust of men, and Todd Brooks, a hard a$$ed detective on the Atlanta police department.
The story begins with a string of murders, the last one pointing directly at Cara as the murderer. Todd and his partner, Colin Gyth, the hero from Hotter Afte...more

I guess being six months behind on reading a series is better than years like most others in my TBR pile. The third book, Midnight’s Master, in this trilogy just released last month, so at least I’m up to date to get started on it now and hopefully not in six months. Honestly, though, I have no idea why I waited so long to read this book. I loved the first book, Hotter After Midnight and even lamented in my review that I had to wait too long for Midnight Sins. But it’s finally read and, just as ...more

Ok the story picks up a few months after Hotter Than Midnight and moves right into Detective Todd Brooks' story. Gruesome murders are back once again and its up to Colin and Todd to solve the case. Todd is the main character and has a budding sexual attraction for the murder suspect. What is UP with these guys DO THEY ALWAYS FALL FOR THE PRIME MURDER SUSPECT!!!! Same thing happened in the previous book. Despite these similarities the plot is slower and does not contain a...more

Detective Todd Brooks is sick of being in the dark on cases, sick of feeling like his partner...the partner he saw turn into a wolf in an agonizing cacophony of broken and reshaped bones and limbs, doesn't trust him. And he's still not sure how the heck that guy Niol tossed him across the room without seeming to lay a hand on him. He's haunted by what he's seen but he's struggling not to let it affect his work. So what if he's gotten a little testy from the burden? When a new...more

Somehow I missed Cynthia Eden in my voracious quest for new (or new to me) authors. I'm anticipating that this will be another wild ride. I just finished Hotter After Midnight and was VERY impressed. I'll let ya know...

Detective Todd Brooks is working a very intense case where a possible female serial killer is targeting men by having kinky sex with them, and then killing them. Todd and his partner, Colin Gyth (hero from Hotter After Midnight), have no clue how the men died. Other then finding the bodies tied to a bed; there is no other trauma to the victim. There may finally be a break in the case; a witness has seen the killer, a woman with long, curly blond hair. Things get even better when they find a wome...more
Excellent read and a direct sequel to Hotter After Midnight. Like its predecessor, it's a paranormal page turner with an action plot. In Hotter, the police captain and the hero tried to keep the hero's human partner in the dark about the supernatural elements. It doesn't really work. In Midnight Sins, Todd Brooks comes face-to-face with the supernatural when the very lovely, very desirable Cara Maloan becomes a suspect in a serial murder case only to learn she is a succubus who has sworn off ...more
In “Midnight Sins,” the second book in Cynthia Eden’s Midnight Trilogy, a rare female serial killer seems to be working in Atlanta. A man’s wallet and a female’s purse are found in the trash near the motel were the latest victim was found. The wallet belonged to the dead man and the driver’s license found in the purse belonged to Cara Maloon. The description the motel desk clerk gave the police matches Cara Maloon’s description and picture. When Detective Todd Brooks meets Cara he is instantl...more
Loved this book!! The characters are unique and the storyline is different than other PNR books out there.
This book featured Cara (a succubus demon) and Todd Brooks a human cop. There have been a few sex related murders and Cara has been moved to the top of suspect list. Todd is having trouble accepting that the world is filled with more than just humans, and he wants to believe that Cara has nothing to do with these murders. Brooks and his partner Glith are investigating the murder ...more

This is the second in Eden's Midnight Trilogy. There are demons, succubi, incubi, shapeshifters, enhanced humans, a serial killer, a couple of romances and of course sex - what more do you need in a paranormal romance.
What's a poor normal human to do when he finds about the supernatural world while working on a serial killer case? What is a poor succubi, who has sworn off sex, to do when she is drawn to the detective who thinks she is a serial killer?

In the second book of the Midnight series by Cynthia Eden, we once again see Detective Todd Brooks, solidly human and slightly rakish parter to Shifter Colin Gyth. Todd never new that there were creatures other than human...vamps, demons, shifters...and that many of them were closer than he thought...including his partner. When he meets murder suspect Cara, the attraction is like nothing he has ever known, but then Cara is not really your average nightclub singer - she is a succubus, or sex de...more

Although it may not be reflected in my rating, unlike most readers I actually enjoyed this one more than the first book (Hotter After Midnight). I felt the characters were a little better developed in this one, and the insta-lust trope which featured again was at least better explained and therefore understandable. I also felt the suspense plot didn’t overshadow the romance.

The story of Cara and Todd is great.
Cara is a sex demon, though she does not want to be and Todd is a cop who is beginning to suspect that his "normal" world is not quite so normal. There are things going on that he gets left out on in his job and he is tired of being left behind.
However, when men start showing up dead and all leads point to Cara, Todd follows not only his instinct in knowing that Cara is not the person to commit the murders but he is also following his ...more

This one was not near as good as Hotter After Midnight. I'm not sure if it's the story or if I just didn't get into the characters as much. I definitely liked the shifter story (Hotter After Midnight). The story of the succubus in Midnight Sins was not as good, and maybe that's because I'm not that into the other sups as shifters and vamps.

"Do you believe in monsters?" She repeated the question and licked her succulent red lips. "You really should, you know."
"And why is that?" His heart pounded like a drum, the dull beat echoing in his ears.
"Because according to some people, I'm one of the worst monsters you'll ever meet."

I enjoyed the first book in the series ok, and this book ended up feeling a bit the same for me. I do feel there's a recurring theme so far of "cop" falling in love with "main suspect" in a supernatural murder investigation, and I'm glad the next book is a bit different.
This time around we meet Cara, a succubus who hates who she is and what she does, so much that she's decided to remain celibate, and she gets ...more

I chose Midnight Sins the 2nd book in the series because am very fond of reading stories that feature a succubus as the main female character.. I did well, Cara Maloan is a strong, sexy addition to my list of favorite heroines in the books I have read in the last few years...

Again, this book is a bit contrived, but still good enough for me to rent it from the library. I like the concept of the Other, and the characters aren't bad at all. I think it was the stuttering...again. I get people are scared, but this text implement was used WAY TOO OFTEN. Also, Detective Todd Brooks was a little too Me Man...You Woman. I get being protective, in love, but this was a bit over the top. I liked Colin and Emily better. And sometimes the mystery is a bit lacking. But overall, an...more
I'm really enjoying the world that the author has created, where other creatures exist in secret from humans. This story, like the first in the series, focuses on a serial killer and our hero is a police officer investigating the case. He first suspects then becomes involved with a succubus demon. This has a nice mix of suspense and romance, with a touch of humor. My only mild criticism is that the romance is a little too much, the hero a little too alpha. Very nice fast read.
3 1/2-4*s Todd Brooks is a detective working a case in which is serial killer is on the loose and it looks like a succubus is doing the killing. Cara is--you guessed it--a succubus. Todd is not only looking for a killer and falling for Cara, but in this book he also fully learns about the world of the Other.
The book felt a little shallow and bland--that's why it was only 3 1/2-4*s instead of a full 4*s.

I thought the sequel to Hotter After Midnight was even more wonderful. I liked the hero and his dilemna with the demon world and, therefore, with the succubus heroine. Despite the paranormal circumstances, the problems they had to overcome to accept one another whole-heartedly were very real. I can't wait for the third book in this trilogy!
A good HEA paranormal romance. I didn't find the main characters in this book as interesting as the first book, but the relationship was still good. I also really enjoyed the side stories of the more minor characters. The mystery part was also pretty good, enough to make you want to keep reading to find out "who dun it."
I like the characters, the many of the characters from the first book are in this one, some more are introduced, this book is about Cara & Todd. Great twist to the mystery of who the killer is. Would liked to have had more of the "monster doctor" in this book. Flows well, & keeps your interest & keeps you guessing.
The story was a good connecting of crime thriller and romance story. But in the middle of this book I thought: "I don't want to read the word 'lady' one more time." I liked the first book "Hotter after Midnight" more. Perhaps I compared this book to much with Richelle Meads Succubus Series.
Book #1 was a short story, so Midnight Sins was more fleshed out although not as good as the first story. Still a solid 3.5 stars to me.
Cara is a succubus who is noticed by Detective Brooks when she's a suspect in a murder. He doesn't know what she is, but is attracted to her. Loved Cara and Todd's story. More information about the Others is revealed. I really like the mythology of Eden's world and look forward to reading the next book.
