I never tire of this series. I just think the humor is so right on! I read often that the book appeals to reluctant readers and I would seriously challenge that. It appeals to ALL readers in fifth grade. Let's face it, we were all a "Greg Heffley" in fifth grade. Unless of course you were a "Rowley" in which case, I am very sorry.
There was a part that had me seriously laughing so hard. (I am not giving anything away here, it will just be much funnier when you rea More...

DEEEELIGHTFUL. Favorite parts: Shel Silverstein boogeyman (amazing), hiding-under-the-blanket-next-to-his-dad-when-the-phone-rings (so easy to picture actually happening, so dumb, so annoying, so funny), and the image of Greg in his glasses, Rowley in his ...spaceman suit? and Mrs. Heffley in the front seat of the car. Kids are so ridiculous, and their parents just let 'em be.

I heard about this series from NPR and decided to get the first one for my boy. I'm glad I got it. It's honest, clever, funny, and sweet without being nauseatingly so. I understand the character and his "uniquenesses". He reminds me of Charlie Brown except for one major difference. The main character accepts himself without all the self depricating self-analyzation.

"I am the best person I have ever known." I love nerds.

Greg Heffley and his family are back and Greg is trying to get up the courage to ask out a girl while trying to keep himself out of military school. The new Wimpy Kid is enjoyable and more of the same. That isn't a bad thing, but it would have been nice have more of an explosive ending like the others. The part about Shel Silverstein made me laugh because I remember thinking the same thing from his picture on the back of Where the Sidewalk Ends.

in this book greg thinks he is perfect so instead of making new years revoulutions for himself he makes them for other people. it did not work because his dad kept cheating on his diet, rodfrick kept hitting him, manny will not get rid of his pacifire, and his mom keep chewing her potato chips so loud. apently to greg the older you get the less fun presents you will recieve at christmas because his family members gave him a stick of deoderant and a travel dictionary in his stocking. he said the More...

I was surprised to find out that this book was not nearly as good as the first two Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. I did not enjoy as much as the other two because the humor that kept me hooked was almost completely gone and the book was more focused on getting the attention of a girl. i hope the next book will be better.

The Wimpy Kid books are great reading. I can't imagine anyone who wouldn't enjoy these. There's a bit about a beloved children's author in this one, that had me laughing 'til there were tears in my eyes.

The wimpy kid books never fail to make me laugh. Kinney has a great sense of comic timing in these books and the pictures really do make the story what it is.

What bothers me about these books is the main character's attitude and the way he treats others. I hope that kids see that the reason Greg gets himself into trouble all the time is because of his attitude. Instead of looking up to him, it's my hope that kids who read this book say, "Man, if Greg just treated people with a More...

Our copy was finally processed, so I had to quickly read it before it was sent over to a different branch of library.

Like all Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, I giggled throughout. Honestly, I don't really like Greg that much, but he IS supposed to be a wimp. He fits that role perfectly. The drawings were perfection, as normal. And the situations are pretty funny, especially the Greg's feelings towards laundry. When I first got to college, I also postponed doing my laundry for MONTHS at a More...

The third installment of the Wimpy Kid series focused on the life of middle school student Greg Heffley. I found the first book hysterical, and the second one less so. The Last Straw hits all the right notes, and goes back to what made the first book so successful – random hijinks focused on Greg and his continued attempts at being popular and attracting the girls (without the focus on his brother Rodrick). In fact, I had more laugh-out-loud moments in this one than I had in the first one. Some More...

I suppose I could use the excuse that I'm previewing the Wimpy Kid books to see if my niece might like a copy of them for her upcoming birthday.

Or I could just admit that I like the darn things and I don't care who knows it.

Greg Hefney is back and just as self-centered and wimpy as ever. He's also as hysterically funny as ever. After stumbling a bit with the second book, the Wimpy Kid series returns to the form that made the first book so much fun. Greg's adventures p More...

The third installment in the series, "...The Last Straw" continues the hilarious struggles of Greg, a tween trying to survive school and home life. Through great drawings and honest writing, Kinney captures what it's like to be a boy stuck in junior high school. I found myself cackling during many parts of the book, especially Greg's ongoing struggle with avoiding the laundry. And when Greg puts on his mother's bathrobe and stands over the heat vent in the floor? That was exactly what More...

This book is a welcome addition to an already hilarious series. The funny thing about this book is that, if you were to ask me what it's about, I couldn't give you very much detail, because it's so jam-packed of silly daily (mis)adventures. That said, the theme, if you will, of this book, is that Greg's dad wants to make him more "manly," which is pretty ridiculous, given what we know about Greg from the last two Wimpy Kid books. My favorite part of the book was the bit about Shel Si More...

This book is really good. I love the series. It makes me laugh. I would love to recomand this book to people who like comedy.

This part on page 14 when he says "The Whirley street kids made monkey noises when they passed us, which was really annoying because that's exactly what we used to do when we passed them. It makes me think like they were tring to bully them.

I relate to my character on page 1o and 11 because Greg tells his grandpa that he does not do his laundry More...

In this book I'm learning that some parents like the little kid in the house better than they like the older kids in the house. For example Greg's, (the main character)little brother Manny gets whatever he wants. For example theres a part of the book that says that Manny's dad threw out his blanket but his mother kept one for him so he wouldn't get mad. This part of the book makes me think that it's unfair to do that because parents shoud like their kids the same way. I can relate to Greg beac More...

The third book in this genre-busting series is certain to enlarge Kinney's presence on the bestseller lists, where the previous titles have taken up residence for the past two years. Kinney's spot-on humor and winning formula of deadpan text set against cartoons are back in full force. This time, Greg starts off on New Year's Day (he resolves to "help other people improve," telling his mother, "I think you should work on chewing your potato chips more quietly") and ends with More...

I still like the first entry in the Diary series the most. This one is another great sequel that the kids at my library have constantly been asking about. Greg hasn't learned a thing. Rowley is still a loveable doofus. Manny can't manage to grow up. The parents are still, well, parental. I have to say that the Shel Silverstein bit was absolutely perfect. I don't know how many times we at the library have commented on that terrifying picture of him. The way the book is set up, Kinney brin More...

What a crack-up - again. Kinney taps so well into the mindset of these boys - the age - that it's just so refreshing. I liked this one as much as the first. . . I think I need to re-read the second one just to make sure I wasn't just in a bad mood when I finished it. . .
A highlights for me: Manny. I love how Greg feels about Manny's pampering - like it's so out of proportion from he remembered for himself at that age. I also like how the "wimpy kid" actually has some self-es More...

The third (and final?) installment of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid was everything I hoped it would be. I started reading these books because I wanted to see what all of the hype was about with the kids and by the time this one came out I was (perhaps) more excited than the children. I really enjoy how well Kinney is able to balance the adult humor and the kid humor. There are aspects of this book that I found laugh out loud hilarious, specifically the part about Shel Silverstein that most of the kid More...

More of the same (and that's not a bad thing), as middle-schooler Greg Heffley battles his way through school and family. This entry in the series focuses a lot on Greg's relationship with his dad and comments, whether intentional or not, on the masculine expectations society puts on boys.

I didn't think this one was as hilarious as the first two (I didn't seem to laugh-out-loud as much). I did think it was pretty hysterical that Greg was (and still is) scared of Shel Silverstein an More...

As I walked down the hallway, I saw a 2nd grader reading this book. As I've read the first two, I asked him if he would let me borrow it when he was done. It's probably good that he let me borrow it before he was done because like I said, he's a second grader. He came down to my room about 10 minutes later and handed me the book. Turns out it's his 5th grade brother's book, and brother stopped by my room after school to make sure his book was in good hands. I promised him that I would return it More...

The book Diary of a wimpy kid the last straw is the sequel to Diary of a wimpy kid and Rodrick rules. It is about a boy named Greg Heffley who is always being pushed around by(most importantly)his older brother and people at school. One thing he is mad about is his little brother Manny always gets what he wants. Greg is mad about that because he didn't get anything he wanted when he was little. Another thing he's upset about is that there is a girl at school he likes and every time he trys to ca More...
