Veteran FBI profiler Maggie O'Dell and Assistant Director Cunningham believed the threat targeted Quantico. It targeted them.
A deadly virus—virtually undetectable until it causes death from a million internal cuts. The victims appear random, but Maggie wonders if vengeance isn't the guiding hand.
An aficionado of contemporary killers, using bits and pieces from their crimes—the Beltway Sniper's phrases, the Unabomber's clues, the Anthrax Killer's delivery.
Maggie knows dangerous minds, but she

Fucking horrible.
The story was interesting at first, I love the setup for action at the begining. This was going to be my first experience with the Maggie O'dell book series. My library has lots of this series and it sounded it interesting. I got two books and this was going to be my safe book, the one I just knew would be light and easy fun.
There is one problem with this book, but it is hugely insurmountable and makes this a horrible mess and kills all enjoyment of the book. There are too many...more

Alex Kava has written a number of thriller novels. Exposed is the sixth book in Kava's FBI profiler Maggie O'Dell series.
In this sixth installment of the Maggie O'Dell series, FBI expert-profiler Maggie is tracking down a killer who indirectly murders others using a strain of the Ebola virus. Maggie's latest case is extraordinary because she tracks the killer while being confined in a private lock-down cell - after already having been exposed to the virus.

This review is from: Exposed (Maggie O'Dell) (Hardcover)
This was an entertaining biomedical thriller. It had enough science to inform a reader about the resultant disease and the ease of transmission of a lethal virus (Ebola Zaire) and an adequate amount of suspense to keep me guessing as to the identity and motivations of the criminal mastermind behind the devious plot. I find books about...more

Were it not for my mother, I never would have read this book. Earlier tonight, I sold the book on Half.com, and as the 2 of us searched through the 500+ books I have listed, to find this one, she mentioned that it was the prequel to 'Black Friday', which I read earlier this year, but that it dealt with the spread of a virus, not blowing up a mall.

Book 6 in the Maggie O'Dell series focuses on a deadly biological attack against several seemingly-unconnected people. Caught in the attack, along with her boss, Maggie and her partner RJ Tully have to figure out the attacker's game before more people die. The stakes go up, the tension mounts, and Tully saves the day. (Thank goodness.)

I've been a bit disappointed with some of the "middle" books in the Maggie O'Dell series, but I thought this one was a darned good read. I think I managed to put it down -- briefly! -- about twice after I started it this morning.
Maggie is sidelined from much of the action in this book, but her frustrated and frightened isolation in a high-tech quarantine facility makes the book very suspenseful. The lives of those affected by the biological weapon are discussed, making the situation seem very re...more

This was the first book of the Maggie O'Dell series I read and I don't know what I was expecting but I was left somewhat disappointed. The premise was good, after all, what is better than a deadly disease ravaging the countryside but it just died there. Instead of having the main character tracking down the culprit, the author has placed Maggie in a quarantine facility and as such was unable to pursue the protagonist. What the reader is left with is chapter after chapter of some other victim be...more
I've been meaning to read this since it came out in paperback, the first chapter was in the paperback editions of the last three books in the series. So, was it worth the wait? In short, yes. Maggie O'Dell is more believable than many other female leads, she's irritable and temperamental. She uses her background in medicine, not to solve the case, but to try to figure out what is wrong with her and as a side effect drives herself up the wall repeatedly. The characters are carefully built up. The...more
I don't know why certain mystery novels catch my eye. I must say, I really like the cover art. In any case, I tend to gravitate towards FBI Agents over cops, and always over Private Investigators. And with the tale surrounding some type of deadly plague, we readers were bound for some messy deaths.
The book proved to be a quick read, fun but somewhat forgettable. I think this is what they call a "Beach Read." Now, that's not necessarily a bad thing - lots of twists and turns, interesting enough c...more

Exposed is the story of FBI agent Maggie O’Dell and her cohorts. It starts innocently with a box of doughnuts and leads to a murderer with an admiration of past killers (Unabomber, Anthrax Killer, etc.) and the most deadly biological weapon of all….Ebola Zaire. This strain is so deadly that it is called the “slate wiper”. Who will get the virus? Will they live? Who is the killer?

Maggie O’Dell is an FBI profiler caught up in a home-grown terrorist attack. While following a lead placed in a box of donuts, Maggie and her supervisor are exposed to an unknown virus and quarantined. Although she has yet to feel any symptoms, one of the victim’s dies. Maggie is able to follow leads through a laptop she is given and notices similarities to the names of the victims and the names from previous unsolved cases. She realizes someone is playing with the FBI and it is someone close to...more
This is another in the Maggie O’Dell series from Alex Kava. I have only read a couple of them. This was a nicely paced book. It did keep me guessing as to who is the killer.
The story is about a killer who mails a deadly virus wrapped in money to different people. FBI agent Maggie O’Dell and her boss (while investigating) are exposed to the virus. They both have to be kept quarantined for most of the book. Even though she is locked away, she uses the computer to continue her investigation.

This one was really good, maybe even, the best one todate. I love these kind of stories. A fiendish killer, sending a deadly Virus by mail. Maggie and her boss, Cunningham, become exposed to the virus and she is locked down in "The Slammer", a medical facility in an army facility. Great stuff, love the way the characters interact in this one also. Scary stuff also, the way these viruses can cause such major devastation if they fall into the wrong hands. Just starting "Damaged", last of the serie...more
Excellent, learned more about Ebola Zaire and others I didn't know about. Maggie O'Dell under the "gun" once again. Kava is the master! The scenario Kava builds is so completely plausible, it is scary. You never know what is going on the minds of the people around you. Everyone has their demons, but some choose to act.

I have been following Kava’s Maggie O’Dell series from book 1 and I am happy to say that this sixth installment is one of the best I read.

This book is every bit as good as Kava gets. Psychological thriller!!!
People are getting mysterious packages of money in the mail. And then are exposed to a nasty....(I'll leave that for the book)
I love the Maggie O'Dell books. The characters are well defined. Kava gives the reader just enough clues that you can almost figure it out. After she reveals the conclusion, I like to re-read it and see how the clues are all there if I was just smart enough to put them together.

Alex Kava's Exposed rose to the top of my TBR pile. (Actually TBL-to be listened). The last couple of Maggie O'Dell books had lagged in plotting. However it seems Alex is back to top form again.
I listened while putting up Christmas decorations and errands and didn't do a good job because I was drawn into the novel. Great pacing without characterization suffering. Quick read. Took the biological exposure topic and didn't get stuck in all the medical minutia. Recommended.

I took a quick look at the other reviews, and most of them think this is one of the best books on the Maggie O'Dell series, but I'm afraid I don't quite agree with them.
The theme is quite interesting and it's a nice "change of scenery" to have the main character locked in a room for the most part of the book, but then it all seems a bit disoriented, I didn't find the book fast paced, and even though the mystery is there - we want to know who the bad guy is, and if more people will get infected a...more

This is a very strong entry in Kava's Maggie O'Dell series. It takes Maggie out of her usual comfort zone in the most extreme way, with a plot line that draws directly from current events. The threat this time involves biological terrorism, with someone sending bits of a fatal virus in a twisted scheme of revenge. The one thing I remain puzzled by in this series is the role of Nick Morelli --- I think he deserves better.
Not a fan of thrillers all that much. I know this author is quite popular and since a friend of mine gave me this book, I thought I'd give it a go. It was interesting and held my attention. I managed to read it rather quickly. Although it was entertaining, I doubt I will specifically seek out another book by this author. Still, if I happen to come across another, I may give it a go.
I made it four stars because the story is original - it involves innocent people being infected with ebola - the Army biological weapons team and the FBI are trying to figure it out. Maggie O'Dell is exposed and spends several days in isolation, where she meets a tall, handsome army doctor. It's good listening to while driving because it's not too complicated and not too long (only 7 cds).
WOW...Better hope this Ebola virus never happens to us! Yikes! In this book 6 of the Maggie O'Dell series...Maggie finds herself exposed to a deadly virus. There are a few story lines with different people getting exposed to this virus...One story just seemed to get wrapped up because the book ended. I did not like that at all which is why I only gave this 4 stars instead of 5. But this is still a very exciting edge of your seat book. Can't wait to read what happens to Maggie next!
I started reading Alex Kava after a friend told me she was from Omaha. Her early books are better than her later ones, but this one was okay. A little freaky because it puts into perspective how deadly viruses actually are and how easily they could be used in biological warfare. Had it figured out, but it was an interesting read.
