Recommends it for: younger elementary kids
Somehow I ran across the fact that Peggy Parish (of Amelia Bedelia fame) wrote children's mystery novels so I decided to check them out. These are definitely for kids, and kids only. Unlike other books written for this age level (see: anything by Beverly Cleary), it did not hold my interest as an adult too. However, I can imagine that as 7-8 year-old, I probably would have greatly enjoyed it. It reminds me a lot of The Boxcar Children series, in that I was a huge fan as a kid and was disappointe...more
This was always my favorite of the series as a kid. I have to admit it's a little dissappointing to read these as an adult because they don't quite hold up and I find myself wanting to edit some of the sexist comments for my children. But my kids absolutely love these stories, just like I did at their ages (6 & 8 years) .
This is a continuation of the mystery series. I really want to make a mystery like the one they did in the book.

Peggy Parish was the author of the children's story series Amelia Bedelia. The series was continued, after her sudden death from an aneurysm, by her nephew Herman Parish. Peggy attended the University of South Carolina and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
