A spiritual tale of a rabbit who goes by the name of Nicholas. No last name is given. In a way, he is Everybunny, making his way through the seasons of life as best he can. This is a classic "bunny v. environment" conflict, one which Nicholas survives through his wits. In one scene, he is threatened by rainfall, and just when you think it is going to be the end for him he decides to keep dry under a toadstool. A profound statement about the instinct to survive.

I am a Bunny
This book is perfect for babies and toddlers who are actively discovering the natural world around them. A cute bunny in red overalls named Nicholas narrates the story; he lives in a hollow tree and shows us how he enjoys observing the changing seasons and playing with plants and animals.

Ok, I lied. This isn't one of Kate's favorite books, it's my favorite book to read to Kate. She only likes it if I change the words so instead of "snow", I say "marshmallows" or something like that, and she can laugh and correct me. But then if I don't change the words, she gets mad and tells me "No, do it wrong!", but then it isn't really as fun, because how much of a surprise is it for me to read the words wrong when she just told me to.

I found this at a library used book sale. Our copy is a hardback with thin cardboard pages.
I particularly like this book for the illustrations. I have always loved Richard Scarry. This is a much earlier work of his, and the illustrations are more detailed and natural in my opinion.
Ole Risom compliments Scarry's illustrations with simple and poetic text...

I love this book so much. First, the illustrations by Richard Scarry take me back to the books I used to look at when I was a little, little girl. Secondly, the story is sweet and simple. It is about a little bunny's romp through nature during the four seasons. Reading this books makes me feel warmy and fuzzy on the inside. Finally, this oversized board book was one of the first books I used to read to my oldest daughter when she was a toddler. She used to sit on my lap, and I would read this to

This title of this book is called I am Bunny ( A Golden Sturdy Book). This book was published in January 13th, 2004 by Golden Book and it was first published on 1984.
In this book Nicholas like to come out to watch the fowers and in summer watch the frog in the pond. In the fall watches the animals getting ready for the winter.

I still have a copy of this book from when I was a baby, and I have just started reading it with my one year old. The pictures are absolutely beautiful, and the story is simple and short enough that my baby can pay attention the whole way through, without being annoyingly simple or cutesy. It's just a really sweet book, one that I cannot recommend enough. While my baby's not quite at the talking stage yet, I think the pictures are really helpful in pointing out what the story is about - flowers,

My toddler loves this book. (Apparently, so did I when I was her age.) Every page has pictures of things she knows by name (bunny, bird, butterflies, flowers, frogs, etc.) because they're common in books for this age and/or recognizable from the real world. The vocabulary and story are simple, which means this is a book she's starting to understand, far earlier than many of her other books. Very few words per page make for easy storytelling with a child who can sometimes be restless during long

This my my book as a child. I found it in one of my old boxes just before my daughter was born. It was the first book she would let me read all the way through was she was a tiny baby. Now I would still have to say it is her favorite book at 18 months. When I am done reading it to her she always says "more". I don't even have to read it anymore because I have it memorized.

When I was little we had a Little Golden Book called something like, "Richard Scarry's Alphabet Book." I loved that book and remember reading it over an over again. I believe the same bunny in that book features here in "I Am A Bunny." My two year old resisted coming over to hear the story since there weren't any trucks, trains, cars on the cover but once I read it he asked me to read it over to him three more times. The book takes us through the seasons of the year as se

I got this book as an Easter gift for my daughter and I just think it is so cute! The illustrations are simple but realistic and the story is short and sweet. The bunny talks about what he likes to do during each of the seasons (watch the snow fall in winter, hide under a toadstool in the spring rain, etc.). Love it :)

This is a perfectly grand children's book, and as one of my favorites from childhood recently rediscovered, I've given it a five star rating. It's large and sturdy, and was illustrated by the illustrious Richard Scarry.
It's not really a story. It's just a simple declaration of what a bunny named Nicholas does with his life. He enjoys chasing butter flies, playing in leaves, and he hides under a toadstool when it rains. He curls up in his cozy tree when winter comes, and dreams of More...

An almost mystical paean to the seasons, illustrated by Richard Scarry. A peaceful book that is still fraught with the raw power of nature.
Such a contrast to that fraud Eric Carle, whose anti-capitalist screed "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" drips with socialistic, vegetarian dogma in every sentence.

This book as from a fellow English teacher. He reads it with his daughter. The story was about the changing of the seasons. Like he told me when he gave it to me, the illustrations are really great. All of the seasons are done well and look inviting, which is important living up in Maine where we have real winter.
This book was also read at story time in Lewiston. After the librarian read it, I realized that there is a lot of interacting you can do with your child with the pict More...

Can't remember if I had this as a kid or not, but I just saw it at the library the other day. I love Richard Scarry's illustraions, and this one is unique in that you see his normal types of characters in a more natural surrounding than cartoon cities. Sweet little book.

One of my favorites growing up, and a favorite to read to my children. The story of Nicholas Bunny as he makes his way through the seasons, simple sentences and beautiful illustrations by Richard Scarry make this one that my children asked for night after night.

A little bunny has fun in every season. I think I would personally like this one better if the bunny hadn't been wearing clothes, but it's still good to use with Preschoolers as they learn about the seasons.

I don't usually add children's books--usually--but, I LOVE THIS BOOK. Disregard the fact that Nicholas has overalls and the other animals don't. Pre-Busy Town Richard Scary is pure genius!!!

You like to call "Nicholas" by name now. You like to point out big and small butterflies, you like to pretend to eat strawberries, and you like to look at the page with frogs.

I got this book as a gift when I was a baby back in the 80's. I treasure it and can't wait to pass it on to my children.

This is a perfect book for toddlers (and their parents!). The illustrations are charming and simple, and so is the story.
