The book itself is very good and quite informative. I think that Larson did a fine job in that:
* He provided necessary context for the trial, but only provided what was directly relevant

Well-written, interesting narrative history on the famous Scopes trial, containing fascinating tidbits on everyone's favorite characters (Darrow and W.J. Bryan) and on how the ACLU attempted to manipulate (and then lost control of) the trial.
A fantastic read -- history at its best.

Good book, but not great. Larson did a nice job with the narrative, but he, like many people, seems to have a fairly shallow understanding of what he continually disparages as "fundamentalism". He tends to portray those that he labels as such as overly simplistic.

""We saw an attempted duel between science and religion at Dayton," its editor observed, but he concluded that both sides lost ground."

I read an article in Smithsonian about the Scopes Trial. Fascinating. Looking forward to reading more, since the debate rages on!
