I liked this book considerably more than I liked the first volume in the series. As with most anthologies I didn't enjoy every piece, but the introductions to them were considerably less annoying here than in Volume 1 and many of the essays were wonderful.

"Moby-Duck" was the longest piece and almost lost me at a few points, but I'm glad I finished it ...it is a very compelling piece, touching on everything from the way pollution is making our oceans toxic to the evolution of the concept of childhood. And an Eric Carle book is mentioned several times..."10 Little Ducks", which is based on the central incident of this essay.

I'm still reading this, but WOW. Each piece in the book is sharply written. They vary in how experimental they are from real play with form to fairly straightforward essays, but so far, every piece that I've read has been fascinating. Highly recommended, especially for essay-collectors like me.
