1. Personal reaction : This book is fantastic in getting young readers interested in geography! The illustrations are a key element and what really grab the reader's attention. For young students, this is vital because this is an introduction to the states so they should not be bogged down with a bunch of text.

2. Purpose(s)/Use in the classroom
• read aloud to make a curricular connection: This would be great to read aloud in Social Studies to discuss the characteristics and geography of the stat

I enjoyed this fun read written and illustrated by Loreen Leedy. Each page has a half page for every state with facts to go with each. There is a picture of the state along with its capital, year of statehood, state bird, and flower along with other fun facts for each state along with Washington D.C and the U.S. Territories. In the end there is a picture of the United States for reference. The beginning has a table of contents which can help young readers find a particular state quickly. One fun ...more

Celebrate the Fifty States (1999) by Loreen Leedy, Pictures by Loreen Leedy, non-fiction/informational.

This detailed and bold informational book for children is an excellent work. The author is also the illustrator, and she does a superb job in the page set up revealing facts about each of the fifty states. The sates are organized alphabetically, and the state flowers, trees, and flags are all included. She uses captions that reveal factual "tidbits" about the states as well. All of the heading

A nice book with half a page of facts about each state. This is just what I wanted after kido became interested in the 50 states puzzle. It is a great supplement. It was the only appropriate book I could find at the library.

More facts would be nice. A more consistent presentation would be nice. (Different kinds of facts are presented about each state). Still, it is a fun helpful book.

Fun facts about every state in the U.S.A. This is a book I would like to own and take a peek here and there every so often. I might even have on my coffee table.
