I cannot recommend this book to anyone who is interested in time travel novels. I kept thinking this must be a young adult novel (although a poorly written one), but it is not.
Con: The plot is simplistic and contrived, and the dialogue is wooden. There was one aspect that made me think this had to be a parody (but again, sadly, that does not seem to be the case): The more experienced time traveler repeatedly warned his companion not to do anything that might change the future. This is one of the very best books I've read. Sure, time travel is one of my favorite topics, but I just can't believe this book isn't a bestseller....its THAT good! The personalities are compelling and realistic. I found myself relating to the lead character throughout. The storyline is also realistic (well OK, not entirely because its time travel), but IF time travel could happen as told in the story, then this is definately "what could have been."
