I will read "Fadern" and "Drömspel" later. I bought this book for "Fröken Julie" which I had read in English long before I researched my Swedish roots and its charming language.

Reading this in the original Swedish, with all of the old phrases and expressions that have slipped from everyday usage into memory, made it ring like a distant church bell from a quaint village idyll.

Being a history nerd, I consider "Miss Julie" (1888) and Thomas Mann's "Death in Venice" (1912) to be two of the greatest

The most important reason why I read this book was.. because we had to buy it for the Swedish literature class and -being the terrible student I am- I hadn't read it. It was time to change that! I like Strindberg because he is easier to read (compared to Lagerlöf, for instance), which makes me focus on his ideas more than the plot. Which is good. Imo.

One of the best plays of all times. A story of class struggle between upper class and lower class. Also a story of the struggle between man and woman. The anatomy of riducule and power.

While good, it is misogynistic and it really did bother me.

I disagree with most of the author's opinions, but it is an easy book to analyse and it reflects the opinions of the time, which is interesting.
