Vicky Myron's "Dewey" is a book about many things: life in small town Iowa, Vicky's own life history, the important role a library can play in the life and identity of a community and, of course, Dewey Readmore Books, one of the best known and well loved cats in the world.
Despite the variety of topics Myron writes about, her book holds together so well through her decision to write honestly about everything. Some of her personal and family history was obviously difficult to write ...more

As a librarian and a cat lover, I had to read this sweet book about the world's most famous library cat. The author tells not only Dewey's story, but her own, and those of their library and their town. Some of it was obviously hard to write -- both the tough stuff about her personal life, and the descriptions of just what made the cat so special. There's a lot of repetition, and sometimes more "telling" than "showing." Or maybe I'm just critical because I know how librari...more

OOOH! I have an ARC of this and am loving it. It's tipped to be the Marley for cat lovers and five chapters in, I am really enjoying it. The writing style is friendly and gramatically great, very picturesque - from the opening paragraphs I can picture the Iowa plains which isn't bad for a girl stuck in downtown Auckland! I think this might be the one book this month I really don't want to finish.

A library cat! What could be more perfect. This has meaning for me since I am a librarian and my cat, Attila, was one of 3 who were left at the library door when they were 3 and a half weeks old. He died prematurely at the age of 10. He is greatly missed.

I bawled on the subway throughout the last chapter. Bawled--like a lunatic. I fell hard for Dewey, the Beef 'n Cheddar gobbling scamp who brings joy to everyone he meets. Cute cat. Cute book. Anyone who loves cats will dig the stories of Dewey's antics and peculiarities. Anyone who doesn't love cats won't make it through the first chapter.

Okay, what cat-loving librarian could resist this story of a small town librarian and the cat that adopted the library as his home. Although the title of the book is Dewey for the cat, this book is also the story of the librarian, Vicki Myron, who saw the value in the small creature who was found in the book drop on a cold Iowa morning.

This sounds like it would be good. But I'd probably end up crying for the entire book, so... I'll add it to my shelf, but am not sure when I'll build up the courage to read it.;>

I can't put this down!! What a touching book about Dewey Readmore Books and a library that brought the community even closer together. I read this book in a day & 1/2. Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched The World touched my heart.

I'm guessing before I even open the book that the cat will die a painful/tragic death, but it sounds like it could be worth the read.

A sweet, amusing story of a lovable cat who adopts a town library in rural Iowa, and how he affects the residents' lives for the better, and the joy and love he brings into their lives.

A heartwarming and cozy read; feelgood story about a beloved cat who worked publicity wonders for a small-town midwestern library.
