A bit of a disappointment. The film is better.

This is the surrealist novel that the film was based on. Similar plot but it is fascinating to see where the two diverge. Scenes mostly told from Valerie's POV, and her grandma is a kook from the get go, just like in the film. The book seems to have more direct sexual innuendo so far, so that's a good thing. Great style, sentence structure, great mix of pulp, gothic horror, and surrealist nonsense. A truly unique piece of writing.
