I love Michael Connelly's books. It's always a thrill to open up the latest one. This one held a special surprise. It's fascinating story. Terry McCaleb is a retired FBI agent who just 8 weeks ago had a heart transplant. He plans to spent the rest of his life enjoying his new heart and rebuilding his boat. He turns down requests every day to investigate cases. But when the sister of his heart donor asks, he can't say no. It's an amazing plot. BUT I kept running into familiar names. Then, as his ...more

Terry McCaleb has recently retired from the FBI in order to not only work on his boat but also because he has recently received a heart transplant and can no longer handle the high stress that his former job caused. However, when a woman he has never met before approaches him asking if he will investigate the murder of her sister, McCaleb finds himself unable to say no. Apparently, McCaleb's transplanted heart came from this murdered woman and he feels obligated to serving her memory. However, a...more

I thought this book was great, I love the twist in it. What I can't understand is I rented the movie last night and why would they change the movie so much from the book? In later books Buddy is just his Buddy, why does he have to be the killer, it makes no sense in the movie, I thought the book was a lot more believable.

Another book outside the Bosch series. Introduces the character Terry McCaleb. This was made into a movie with Clint Eastwood. Terry, who was a top man at the FBI until a heart ailment forced his early retirement. Now he lives a quiet life, nursing his new heart and restoring the boat on which he lives in Los Angeles Harbor. Although he isn't looking for any excitement, when Graciela Rivers asks him to investigate her sister Gloria's death, her story hooks him immediately.

I don't know how I missed this one. I thought I'd read all of Connelly's stuff. I was afraid I might not like this one as well because it's not Bosch, so I was pleasantly proven wrong.
This is an excellent story revolving around former FBI agent Terry McCaleb, who has recently had a heart transplant. He finds out that the heart he received came from a woman who was murdered, and the sister of that woman wants him to solve the murder.

Compulsive reading, as are all Michael Connelly's. I wondered if a non-Harry would have that effect, but yes! Quite pleased I picked up on the shooter quite earlyish, but didn't see the "why" coming.

This is a pretty tightly written mystery thriller that kept me guessing almost to the end. I enjoyed the fact that the author didn't over write the book, by which i mean that he didn't try to get too descriptive, and didn't jump into the main characters head too much. I thought the layout of the mystery was very well done, in that there wasn't so much foreshadowing going on that it made you guess or want to guess. In that regard it was better than average. And the plot twists were very well done...more
