Scott Sigler is one of those new fangled podcast novelists who is revolutionizing the publishing industry. Sigler offered audiences his first couple of novels free to the whoever wanted to download them. Through hard work and shameless self-promotion, Sigler got his name out there, drew in audiences and created a network of 30,000 plus rabid fans who couldn’t wait for the next insallment or novel.

Eventually, the publishing industry took notice and signed Sigler to a contract to put his ...more

Wow, Scott really goes for the gross-out here. Look our Stephen King. I find Scott's books very readable (what does that even mean?) Ending was abrupt. Possibly setting up for a sequel. I want to know more about it! I may even have nightmares.

Scott Sigler is a podcast author - #1 on every aggregator, icluding Itunes. Infected is his first published novel. I picked it up because the cover looked cool, and the title sounded creepy. The short synopsis inside the front cover convinced me to buy it.
Boy, was I glad I did!
Infected is an original story that's well told, thought provoking, and fun to read. The characters are well written and believable and the story is intriguing.

My entry into the genius world of Scott Sigler. The guy knows how to write. And this story of an "inner invasion" kept me on the edge of my seat. Sigler's books are not for the squeamish, nor the kiddies. Since that time I have enjoyed numerous novels and short stories by this new media master of the macabre. But Infected will always have a special place in my heart. And my kidneys. And my leg...

Horror is a genre that is much maligned. There are people who think nothing of reading a deeply supernatural thriller by John Connolly and yet would scoff at the idea of looking for something to read in the horror section. Preferences are, of course, complex things, but I think it boils down to this: for every great writer in the genre--a Jeff Long, say, or a Peter Straub--who writes elegant novels that don't get too very gory or bloody, there's another writer (often far more well-known), such a...more

Gritty urban prose, meets science fiction, meets old fashioned horror in a new modern way. A fast paced romp through more blood and gore than I’ve read in ages. Sigler presents a new threat to world peace from a galaxy far, far away that Captain Kirk, The President and CIA agent Dew Phillips, can’t do anything about.

Based around ex-NFL star, Perry Dawsey, we follow the insertion, growth and mutation of microbial invaders from space. They have only one thing in mind, to open a doorway to ...more

INFECTED BY SCOTT SIGLER: Scott Sigler is a special, new kind of writer to join the publishing world; one might even call him an author of the twenty-first century. He wanted to bring his work to the people of the world, for free. He began on March, 2005 by podcasting his book Earthcore a bit at a time, with continuous updates. Earthcore was branded as “the world’s first podcast-only novel,” and Sigler started off with three listeners; at the end he had over ten thousand subscribers. H...more

Podcaster Scott Sigler’s first two novels, "Earth Core" and "Ancestor," were released in audiobook format over the internet to more than 30,000 subscribers. His latest work and first major print release, Infected, is an engrossing, albeit gruesome, thriller with a touch of the supernatural and enough blood, guts and gore to please popular fiction fans en masse.

Perry Dawsey is a fallen athlete from Ann Arbor, Michigan, who spent his former college days on the football fi...more

People are going insane. They keep hearing voices and turn into killers. Killing people around them in addition to turn on themselves. The Coordinating Center for Infectious Diseases is investigating this rash outbreak and what could be causing this. Margaret Montoya with the CDC detemines that there is one thing that all these people have in common......They have been colonized by a bioengineered parasite.

Perry Dawsey has been infected but there is something unique about him. For some odd r...more

If I could give halves, I would have given it a three and a half. After really thinking about it, I just couldn't push this review up to a four.

I found myself drawn in with the Perry chapters, and those that were done in the infection's point of view. Perry's chapters asked a question of me, "When does one stop being a victim and start becoming a villain?" Though I knew what was going on with Perry, I knew that it wasn't his fault, I really began to hate him near the end. I d...more

Infected is the first major release by the king of podcast fiction, Scott Sigler. It is a wild ride, even though much of the novel takes place in the apartment of one Perry Dawsey, former star linebacker going through the fight of his life.

And this is what makes Infected my favorite Sigler offering: like a great Hitchcock film (albeit with gore never imagined by the great director), Infected drips with suspense. The confining nature of the setting, the battle Perry wages against himself (tak...more

This was incredibly engaging. I was convinced in the first few chapters that those reviewers who were creeped out by this book were...well...too easily creeped out! The ick factor really snuck up on me. After a few more chapters, I was itching and thoroughly hooked by this story.

The story of how this book came to print is also fascinating. Scott Sigler brought his story to fans as a series of podcasts in which he read new installments to listeners. He gathered such a groundswell of supp...more

The back of this book said it was "half Stephen King" and "half-Chuck Palahniuk". This is a lie. Scott Sigler writes like neither of them. His writing style is too long-winded for Palahniuk and nowhere near mystical enough for King. If I were to compare him to anyone, I would say Michael Crichton, but rather than plausible techno-thrillers, he writes far more crazy, outlandish, sci-fi horror.

That said, this is not a bad book. There are a couple terrific characters ...more

I worried about starting this one. It's tough for a book with so much hype surrounding it to meet reader expectations, but it's doing that and more so far. Sigler's writing style is lean and mean. Several scenes rank among the grossest I've ever read, to the point where I'm laughing and cringing at the same time. Funny and scary, my favorite combination.

This book is 90% plot-driven. It moves from one action sequence to the next, and I usually tire of that type of story-telling pretty...more

I actually read this book before I read this book. I first heard the novel via Scott Sigler's podcast, where "Infection" first appeared. This is the print version of the same story (retitled to "Infected" for copyright reasons), though it's been updated and, in my opinion, improved. While the original was excellent, this version is even better. It's more polished and confident than the audiobook, and it has some nice touches like the symbol drawings and the funky text whe...more

Normal citizens are becoming paranoid, slaughtering their friends and family, and setting themselves on fire. The only thing they have in common are strange triangular growths growing under their skin. In an effort to quell the situation before it gains national attention, the president has authorized the CIA to run an op on US soil. The best hired guns and scientists are available, but will it be enough to stop the infection?

Infected is a good book hampered by uneven writing and implausi...more

This book is proof that just because you like the authors who offer a book jacket blurb, it doesn't mean that you'll like the actual book being blurbed about.

I like the story of this book (mysterious plague reeking havoc on society), but not the way the story was told. It'd be good for a chapter and then bog down for two.

I didn't like this book and can't in good conscience recommend it.

This book was quite interesting. I liked that the author used street language instead of crusty old proper author language. His casual, yet vivid descriptions have a new age appeal. I don't like science fiction much, so this was a good choice. It is a mixed bag of medical, and mild sci-fi, plus some average life appeal. I also liked that he has short chapters, so he switches from character to character, which keeps it interesting. I thought that he hurried through the end of the book where you f...more

Do you like your sci-fi scary? Gruesome? A bit medical? Gory? Do you want a page turner that will keep you up until that last page is turned and maybe have you creeped out for days and sweaty at night? Then this book is most definitely for you. I was, at one point, holding this book, eyes wide, making a disgusted face, squealing and kicking my feet. The writing in this is skillful and the characters are uh... well-fleshed out. Perry is especially vividand while I've never really identified with ...more

Audiobook..............This was a pretty good story, but there was a lot of unnecessary vulgarity and gore, which is the reason it gets a three star rating.
