This was surprisingly lame, coming from no less a literary giant than Robert Louis Stevenson, who wrote these stories as if they were intended for a second-rate boy's adventure magazine. The concept of a club for people who want to committ suicide is solid and reminiscient of something Hitchcock might have come up with, but Stevenson unfortunately does very little with it. The idea itself is ripe with potential moral conundrums and dramatic possibility, but Setevenson glazes over all of that, de ...more

Well done me for finishing a classic in one sitting, even if it was a short story collection. But in all earnest; this was my first Stevenson book; it definitely won't be my last. A highly intriguing and enjoyable story; though I was slightly disturbed yet intrigued by it in places. Nevertheless, I look forward to reading this author once more in the future.
A trilogy of short stories based around the suicide club. The club is only really explored in the first tale and it a pretty interesting idea. One of those ideas you might see used in an episode of the Twilight Zone, Black Mirror etc.

It doesn't really get examined as much as i would of liked. The other two stories come across as more detective style fiction. The writing is good throughout but the perspectives from which the stories are told are both a good and bad thing.

The story's premise sounds better than actually reading it. The possibilities that the story's premise should explore are not so much as touched. The characters are beforehand decidedly good or evil no matter the events of the story, which I think pulls the story down more than it helps. Each of the short stories in this trilogy stands on it's own but when strung together feels more like a plot of convenience than the telling of a story- but I suppose that is the purpose of Victorian novels... The Suicide Club is only 59 pages long and only contains three connected short stories, but, of course, it was fabulous, as all Stevenson's writing is in my humble opinion. Strikes me as imitative of Poe but a little less dark. A fast-paced, easy read, it nonetheless contains some interesting comments on the body as object, social atavism, and foreign relations that merit scholarly consideration.

1 saatte bitti. 130 sayfa bir kitap zaten.

Birbirleriyle bağlantılı 3 kısa hikaye sunuyor bize İntihar Kulübü. Kremalı Turta Satan Genç Adamın hikayesiyle başlayarak bizi Viktorya dönemi Londrası'nda

It was an interesting story with some enjoyable characters and mysterious foes. Robert Louis Stevenson is one of my favorite authors; that being said I was a little disappointed with all the loose ends such as the true motives of the enchanting Madame Zéphyrine and the would be lover of Mister Scuddamore. I also would have liked to see more of the titular Suicide Club as I thought that was a very intriguing group. I would however recommend this as it is a short story and an enjoyable read.

This is a three-piece short-story series with a very interesting premise: a club that abets and commits proxy-suicide by consensual murder of its members.

The story peaks in the beginning when the concept and characters are introduced and flags as the setting sinks in and you focus on the sequence of events. The characters are sketched out extremely well with the exception of, perhaps, Prince Florizel, who seems a forced mix of attributes to me.

The non-linearity between the three stories despite

An intriguing little book. A great series of mysteries, written in such lovely, Queen's English; a refreshing change from most of today's authors (my English snobbery is showing...). Loved it so much! The characters were so well portrayed in a few words, as was each setting. Stevenson was an intelligent, terse author which works so well to portray so much in so few words. Unlike me. (sentence fragment)

Recuerdo haber sentido miedo y angustia. Para mí fue algo perturbador y emocionante.

The adventures of the godly Prince Florizel and his comrade Colonel Geraldine are a delight to rival even Holmes and Watson...and that's not a small statement. Wish Stevenson had written more of these!!

As short stories maybe not that satisfying, but they sure were gripping, and the whole idea incredibly interesting. Although the first story was also frustrating, because I'd have loved to read an entire novel on the club!

Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson was a Scottish novelist, poet, and travel writer, and a leading representative of English literature. He was greatly admired by many authors, including Jorge Luis Borges, Ernest Hemingway, Rudyard Kipling and Vladimir Nabokov.

Most modernist writers dismissed him, however, because he was popular and did not write within their narrow definition of literature. It is onl
