Great book! Challenging and thought provoking book about moving past spiritual complacency, into true relationship with God.

The first half describes the "borderland" that many Christians find ourselves in--the sort of "safe" but dead place where we acknowledge God but only in a half-hearted way. The author challenges everyone (and himself) to move out of that borderland, get out of that place you're stuck in, and move into the passionate life God has for us.

I love rereading this book. Buchanan is a very poetic author (sometimes his flowery words get annoying). I didn't realize that this was a book about Christian spiritual disciplines until I was mostly through it (a very great accomplishment on the part of the author). Reading this book made me excited about practicing spiritual disciplines. The author does not make you feel guilty but rather he inspires you with the reality of a spiritually disciplined life. I highly recommend this book!

This is an amazing book about how God does not live in the box that we often like to create for Him. It teaches us of the wildness of God and that the bounderies we have around Him are not real, but of our own making. I especially love that it shows that God is a being with emotion, not just a static 'guy in the sky'.

God does not fit in our box - he is scary but he is safe (to quote Lewis in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe). This book will refresh stale faith, challenge long-held beliefs and make you think like you've never thought about God and the church whilst never disrespecting both. Read it!

This book is a pretty good overall wide general challenge to your Christian lifestile and how to avoid getting stuck in a faith rut. At the same time the tone is nonjudgemental or threatening and the book is quite easy to follow.

Read it during a time of a spiritual funk and it was fantastic. He writes unlike any other Christian devotional author and that helps a lot. His insights change the way you see things spiritually.

""Sometimes doubting is not a lack of faith, but an expression of it. Sometimes to doubt is to merely insist that God be taken seriously not frivolously, to insist that our faith is placed in and upheld by something other than seeming conjuring tricks." " more quotes »
