This book deals in depth with all possible aspects of book reviews and reviewers.
In Part One, The Art of Reviewing, the authors examine what a book review is, comparing it to book reports, critiques, etc. There are sections on how to write a book review, including examples of published reviews by the two authors, on types of reviews, on "the absolute don'ts (or signs of an amateur), on "What's in it for You, the Reviewer", on how to start your own book review site, etc More...

'Para escribir reseñas como un profesional', ese es el lema de Mayra Calvany y Anne K. Edwards. Mucha gente escribe reseñas, últimamente más con la extensa expansión de espacios de difusión que promueve la red, primero con los blogs y podcasts y recientemente con redes sociales especializadas en la bibliofilia. En más de una ocasión todos hemos recurrido a una reseña ante la duda de leer/comprar un libro o no y aquí es que la reseña y su estructura cobra importancia.

I bought the book hoping it would give me helpful advice how to write better reviews for my reading forums and Goodreads shelf. However, the book is more oriented toward semi-professional reviewers who regularly evaluate ARC or newly published books for specialised sites. Somehow I didn`t find a way to develop my own vision of a good amateur review. The author of course gives a lot of good tips and suggestions but honestly speaking, I don`t think I would be implementing them. For example, she str

The Slippery Art to Book Reviewing is a good aid for those who are thinking of becoming a ‘serious’ reviewer or wish to improve their reviewing skills, it contains some useful examples, reference material and in-depth explanations. I fall into the category of ‘reader to reader’ reviewer and although the book is aimed mainly towards the more professional reviewer I still found it interesting. It hasn’t influenced me to change my style of reviewing and level of participation in same but it ha

What type of review should one give about reviewing books? Well the fact that I did a tireless search through almost every possible online book venue I could manage to find how-to books on book reviewing and found only this one, I would have to say this book was excellent. The book was well organized, an easy read and left the reader in a good mood after finishing. Yes this art of book reviewing is not easy as this book points out but it also doesn't leave out the positive points in being a revi

I didn't get this book to help me become a paid book reviewer. I wanted something that could help me express myself on somthing like bookread, amazon, barnes and noble. I have been very blesed to receive seven books to read, some before publication. I want to be more helpful to the authors and publishers.

A helpful short guide to writing and publishing book reviews in 2008, published in 2009, and I read it in 2010 and already the information is starting to be out of date. A fast moving field, evidently. It was enough to get started on it, although I haven't put it to much use yet.

A few good tips but mostly a great list of sources, places to publish reviews and some good definitions of the various types of review. Calvani and Edwards are both published authors and ezine editors. I must admit that the samples of reviews didn't impress me much.

This book is a must-read for anyone who loves to write book reviews. This book is geared more towards professional reviewers, but it can help anyone write better reviews and at least avoid the common mistakes. This is a great book both for those who have no knowledge on the subject and also those with some experience in writing. I loved the sample reviews, some of them were very funny but portrayed the points very well.

Concise book on the art of doing a book review. Calvani does a wonderful job of describing how to read a book critically and then how to develop your notes into the right type of book review. Remember, context is everything. Is this review going into a blog, an online book site, a professional book review journal? The author gives examples of each type of review and practical information on how to deal with publishers, editors and how to start your own book review site. Part Three deals with res

I first heard of this book through J. Kaye's Book Blog. I have searched the internet and books for info on how to write good book reviews, but I never found anything as detailed as this. I was worried it would get too technical, but the book didn't. It was easy to understand and I'll probably use it frequently. I especially found the part on reviewing children books helpful. It's a small part, but has some good pointers.

I'm not one for much nonfiction, but I've gotten into reviewing a few books so I thought I'd check it out. On the whole, it wasn't bad. Some parts are a little simplistic or reductionistic, but there is a lot of good material here and it is organized and presented well. I think it is geared toward writing a different kind of review than I have gotten into, but I still found useful material.
