Ruang Reptil (A Series of Unfortunate Events #2)
1) The pretext behind this series, and the reason it has gathered such a following among older readers, consists of its being one of the few children's novels that unabashedly declares that not all stories have pleasant endings. I see myself, far in the future, encouraging my children to read these short novels not only because they are fun (because there I take delight in their repetition, their silly self-aware prose) but because one ought to understand that...more
It's an enjoyable sequel filled with all of the same reading pleasures (and all of the same pitfalls for the Baudelaire orphans) as novel the first. I've been reliably informed by Jay that I must read 5 of the same book before things start getting better. When using the term 'getting better' here Jay means 'the plot changes.'
This episode features Uncle Monty and I think...more
The Baudelaires are now living with their uncle Dr Montgomery Montgomery, a reptile enthusiast and are having the time of there lives, till Count Olaf decides he still wants them pesky kids so he can have the fortune. Fun ensues.

The sequel to The Bad Beginning, where the 3 children are yet again, finding another home for them to be looked after, after the last... turned out to be a psycho maniac that wanted to all their money.
The children travel to their new guardian who is a herpetologist. Could this guardian be as bad as the last and slowly plan the children's death or could he have a kind heart and be the first sight of sunshine that t...more

I found some of the factoids spit out in the this one kind of interesting in an animal kingdom kind of way.
And to have it all end with the orphans all acknowledging how brilliant each of them was to help expose Count Olaf and save themselves in spite of the grown-ups' unwillingness to listen to them was perfect.
Lovely story, lovely characters, de...more

I decided to read this book because my friends all said it was a really good book and that they enjoyed reading it them self.
This book fits into the category: your own choice. I found this category interesting as it was my choice, so I could pick any book I wanted which made it more interesting than picking some other category that has a strict restriction of what you can read.
My favorite quote in this book would be: " as you and...more
These books are basically about three children who lost their parents, their awful uncle adopts them because he wants to steal their fortune. The children, ofcourse, try to stop him but unfortunately, it doesn't really work out and he comes back in the second book.
I liked it, I did, but I find it hard to keep in mind that it's a childrens' book. The plot is almost the same as the first book, which is...more

LEMONY SNICKET WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
The Reptile Room begins where Lemony Snicket's The Bad Beginning ends... on the road with the three orphaned Baudelaire children as they are whisked away from the evil Count Olaf to face "an unknown fate with some unknown relative." But who is this Dr. Montgomery, their late father's cousin's wife's brother? "Would Dr. Montgomery be a kind person? they wondered. Would he at least be better than Count Olaf? Could he possibly be worse?" He certainly is not worse, and in fact when the Baudelaire ch...more

In Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Reptile Room three siblings named Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire, who just came from losing their parents in a fire and a certain Count Olaf trying to steal the fortune they left behind, are sent to live with their Uncle Monty. His real name, however, is Montgomery Montgomery and he is a herpetologist, which means he studies snakes. Uncle Monty was a well known herpetologist who alway...more
The book is my another Floridian friend's recommendation, and I am a fan of the author, "Lemony Snicket". That is because I think that his books have not been translated into Japanese yet. So, if I would love to read his books, I definitely have to read his books in English. I love reading such kinds of books.
The book series has thirteen episodes, so I really would love to...more
Ingeniously, the Baudelaires escape and the second book finds them living with 'Uncle Monty,' a kind and fascinating herpetologist. Of the books I've read, this one is my favorite. Uncle Monty is by f...more
My favorite part of this book was the morning after Uncle Monty was found dead and the police came to the house and investigated everything. While everyone thinks that the deadly viper killed Uncle Monty, the children knew that is was Count Olaf.
My favorite character in this story was the Incredibly Deadly Viper. His name was pretty ironic because he was one of the nicest and harm...more

I came to this series after already watching the tie-in movie "Lemony Snicket's a Series of Unfortunate Events". I had been fairly certain I would like the series for its dark humor, and the first book in the series - "The Bad Beginning" - most certainly did not disappoint, so I was not too surprised when I also loved "The Reptile Room".
Like the rest of the novels in this series, this book is very slender and can be whipped throu...more
