In this beautifully illustrated book Brown not only gives a survey of Venetian art but contrasts it with the Renaissance art of Florence, drawing upon the unique geography and history of the city and describing how these influenced Venetian art and artists. It is a good place to begin in the study of this subject, providing the background needed for the reader to dig more deeply into the art of greatest interest to him or her.
