This book contains 23 pages of great picture puzzles, and items to find and solve. The books in this series are a family favorite. My children love looking through the pictures and finding the items in question, or solving the puzzles. Wick, the co-creator of the I Spy books, has a knack for visual narrative. In this book, he retells the tale of In A Dark Dark Wood, across 12 picture narratives with one picture zoomed into 8 times its original size for details. He begins with a castle on a hill...more

My Review

Can you see what I see? A scary skull, a moon, and stairs- there's spooky fun for one who dares!

My favorite pages are.... On A scary scary night and in a scary scary castle.
I loved the book because you can find really cool, creepy things. The reason I find this book so interesting for all ages though, is that the author makes his own models of the pictures, movie sets actually. If you look closely at each and every page, you will see so many little details on every inch of the book. Tak...more

This is not your typical book to read to children, but definitely fun. Each page has pictures of spooky halloween scenes, and kids have to find a list of items on the page within the picture. Some are easy, and some I had trouble working out, but a book kids would enjoy.

Oh this is my most favorite children's book as of right now. I want to get all of his books after going through this one with the kids. I normally hate search and find books, but this one is so different and Magical I just fell in love. Everyone who reads it will be a fan...

This isn't as easy as it looks! But, I had a blast reading this with my son and searching for the items in the pictures. The illustrations are wonderfully detailed and perfectly spooky. My son and I have decided we need to get more of these books.

Good Fun!

Beautiful illustrations and nice rhymes. I bought it mostly for the pretty pictures, but I got into the search game and found it fun to play. Some of those items were really hard to find!

Walter Wick, the photographer and illustrator of the I Spy Games has his own series of books out now. One that caught our eye at the library was On a Scary Scary Night.

The book tells the story of a trip through a haunted town at night. Each illustration is one stop on the trip and full of often times difficult I Spy like games. Sean and I found the puzzles in thin book much harder than anything we ever faced in an I Spy book.

That said the illustrations out do the I Spy ones. I think when Sean is...more

I love these "I Spy" books! I never did find the "ghostly hand" in the penultimate picture.
Megan
Incredible detail, hidden pictures, and impressive optical effects.
Mary
A cool book, but would be most appealing to children old enough to understand the concept of finding objects within the pictures.

Wick Walter was having an art display at the BYU art museum in the summer of 2009. I took my kids there to show them his work and my middle child was fascinated with the pictures and mock ups. So we got him this book for his birthday. He loved it! Even though I am an adult, I too enjoyed going through looking for hidden objects.

it was a very good book but it was hard.

Great fun for kids! Creepy, scary, and gloomy pictures hide all sorts of gadgets, gizmos and hauntingly good fun.
