this is like good-early Michael Critchon.

and very, very medical in its tone - it really reminded me of Andromeda Strain, which is one of my favorite thrillers ever.

this is set in both space and on earth, and in the deep deep waters of the galapagos. there are still a few questions i want answered (what was with helen? why did she resign?) and of course, it had the lovely...more

Dr Emma Watson is training for a mission of a lifetime. She will be travelling to the International Space Station (ISS) to study living organisms in space. For a research scientist with an interest in space, this is a mission of a lifetime.
A series of events - some deliberate, and some accidental – result in an overwhelming and rapidly fatal infection spreading amongst the crew members of the ISS. The remaining crew appears doomed to die in space as the infection threatens life on earth. ...more

When I read this book, I was forced to think about the movie
Mission Impossible 2, since it talked a lot about the Chimera virus. And it was very interesting on how Tess Gerritsen described how the astronauts on the space station looked and acted after being infected with the virus. I couldn't help but wonder how that would look if it was made into a movie.
The reason I had chosen that book was because I was interested in medical thrillers when I went to the Holladay Library here in Utah and...more

Tess Gerritson is such a skillful, knowledgeable writer of medical thrillers that this book surprised me with what appears to be a similarly knowledgeable book about space travel. Astronauts trapped on the space station while a strange virus runs rampant. They are running out of time. The government has decided to let them die rather than attempt a rescue because of the danger if the disease--whatever it is--should get loose on earth.

Only Dr. Jack McCallum, about-to-be ex-husband of Emma ...more

I saw the author speak about her book at the Author!Author! series at my high school, and was impressed that she had done the amount of research she did to write this book. Did you know that if you went into space, the rays of the sun would boil your blood, and you would simultaneously freeze? This is probably the only sci-fi book on my shelf, but I did like it. It even had a small romance subplot, which, of course, I enjoyed.

I think Gerritsen is obsessed with parasitic infections; this time, the parasite is extraterrestrial in nature and eats up a bunch of astronauts who catch it from their experiment payload. Lots of gross imagery of decomposing bodies disintegrating in zero gravity and blobs of goop and alien parasite stuff. Also the parasite is rapidly evolving to contain genes from whatever it infects, which is creepy. Weird stuff man.

This book was a bit too science fiction for me. I do enjoy her novels on the whole though. The majority of the novel takes place on the Internation Space Station. Emma needs to take the place of the medical personnal that is on the ISS because his wife has been in an accident. She finds that there is a serious medical problem and tries to find out what is causing it and how to stop it before it kills everyone.

Good story about a space mission that involves studying animals at zero gravity aboard the space shuttle when something goes terribly wrong and the astronauts are threatened by a virulent bio-hazard. Doctors/astronauts on the space shuttle and the ground, race against time to find the source of the bio-hazard. The author is a doctor and she has produced a realistic and graphic medical mystery.

The beginning was a bit slow and dry for me, but once they were in space the pace picked up nicely and I had trouble putting the book down. Intriguing. Interesting combination of facts and ideas to form a new medical mystery. The helplessness of being stuck in space with very few medical supplies and options made this very edgy. Frightening possibilities.

I love tess gerritsen books, and as a quick read with little thought needed she reigns queen. I love pretty much all of her books for that reason. I can't read too many of them one after the other, but after reading a heavy thought provoking book, Gerritsen is usually what I crave. She just needs to keep up with me. I have read most of her book twice.

When I was growing up, I always wanted to be an astronaut. What kid doesn't ?
I like this book a lot, because it is a thriller plus NASA education for me. Aliens, science, bioengineering, love story and heroes all in one story in a high pace read.
If you are looking for pure entertainment and quick reading. Pick up a used one in Amazon or eBay.

Dr. Emma Watson is supposed to be studying living beings in space, but after boarding the International Space Station she's got a much more important task: halting the plague that is striking down crew members before it spreads to Earth.

Not for the weak of stomach, but an absolute page turner

Felt obligated to read this before taking the boys to Florida (we were going to the Kennedy Space Center) the first time. I was prepared not to like it. Wow! It was a great read; I think I finished it before we got to Florida.

I really enjoyed this book. Some parts were kind of irritating because you think people would learn from their mistakes, but reality shows us that isn't always the truth. Overall I truly enjoyed the novel and its imagination.

This book was pretty good. A little slow at times, but really fascinating as it's about NASA and space. I've read books by Tess Gerritsen that I've liked better than this one. Overall, still a pretty good read.

I made it through half this book before I realized I'd read it before. What a waste of 160 pages! I guess it's a little telling, too, that the thing that made me remember was a rapidly decomposing rat.

This was a good read. I really enjoyed the location of the book (Internation Space Station). I have read other Tess Gerritsen books. I find that they start out and quickly grab the reader attention.

I've never read a book about space travel, but this was recommended by a friend. Astronauts travel to the international space station and are attacked by a scientific experiment that goes wrong.

If you're looking for a good airport read, these medical thrillers by Tess Gerritsen are pretty good. Plus, I've met her and she's nice. A former internal medicine doc, turned author.

I don't normally care for the medical thriller genre, but I must admit this one drew me in. Maybe because Gerritson added an outer space element to the mix? Yes that's probably why.
