An effortless read, the pages just keep turning.
This is the story of one tough female cop, Jane Rizzoli, who is about to become a mother, her brave husband Gabriel Dean, an FBI agent and their friend Maura Isles the ME and what they all discover when she finds that a beautiful dead woman in the morgue is really alive.
I don't want to give too many details away. I think Publishers Weekly gave up too much about the story in their review and other reviewers here also give too much away.

This is actually the third Tess Gerritsen book that I have read. As for the three things I pay attention to: characters, style and story, this one is really good.
Like her other books, it is easy to read and she brings back several characters you already know/love. Her Homicide Detective Jane Rizzoli has not been my favorite, but there are several scenes in this book that make me just love her. Imagine - a less than maternal pregnant woman, trapped in a hospital a week after she is due ...more

It's been a long time since I've been as engrossed in a book like I was in this one. I bought it because I needed something to read while I waited to get my hair cut. I became so engrossed with it the next day that I was up until past 1 a.m. reading. I finally had to put it down and then got up in the morning and read straight for about 2 hours until I finished it.
It's the story of trafficking in young girls from Eastern European countries, bringing them to this country as sex slaves...more

"Vanish" Is a real page turner.
I like this book becouse it get Strate to the point. Theres no fafing about trying to make a big entrince into the crime.
I also like how there is 2 different parts to the story, and u find out that the 1st part, About Mila, the little Russin girl who is brough over to become a high class prositute but exaptes into a life that is full of fake IDs Blood and guns. and the 2nd. where the case of a woman finds herself zipped into a body bag ...more

After making her mark in the medical thriller realm, Gerritsen expands her reach into the realm of standard police procedurals with "Vanish." In typical Gerritsen style, the prose flows smoothly, the characters are richly drawn, and more than one woman loses her life in support of the plot line.
Speaking of plot, the conspiracy theory seemed a little far-fetched to me, and the loose threads left at the end of the book kept this from being a four-star review. But lovers of Gerritsen...more

oh, pregnant!jane and worried!maura, i didn't even mind the men in this story. my love for jane and maura grows and grows. i love that Tess Gerritsen isn't afraid to write flawed women - whether because they have tempers, aren't natural mothers, or have realistic fears - it all seems to resonate with me, despite the fact i will never be a cop or an ME. this was a really interesting plot dealing with the sex trade in the US, but the ending wr...more

I loved this book! There was literally not one second while I read the book that I was bored. This book was fast paced and totally action packed. This book is definitely not for the faint of heart. It is gruesome in some parts and has a few rape scenes that may be too graphic for some. I love murder mysteries and psychological thrillers so this was right down my alley. This was the first Tess Gerristsen book I have read and I will definitely be reading more. I love her straight forward wr...more

okay, this book blows. yes, i was after cheap entertainment, but, crap, how much punishment do i get for not reading literature? tess gerritsen made a really bad first impression. she cheats on the stories. she demeans women. even though women come through in spite of evil--and without help from men--they can't wait to get back to their guys. give me a break. this is not reality, but even suspending disbelief this book offended me horribly. i'm not even sure why i finished the book.

Vanish is book #5 from the Jane Rizzoli & Maura Isles Series. A very fast paced, exciting novel. The Surgeon and The Sinner are still my favorites from the series, so far. I would like to see, in the upcoming novels in this series, some romance for Dr. Maura Isles. She leads a very dull, boring life. All the books in this series would make good movies.

Tess Gerritsen does a convincing job of making us understand the lengths people can go to getting what they want, particularly the sick and twisted. I found this book disturbing in the utmost - it's not for the tender-hearted - but it was well-written, and not as predictable as one might have guessed for the genre. I'd recommend it, but with the reservation that, if one is at all squeamish about sexual abuse/rape, one avoid it.

It took me a really long time to finish this book. It was good, and the subject matter was interesting but for some reason I never wanted to read it. That doesn't happen to me very often. I can't figure out what it was about this book that turned me off. I like Gerritsen's writing style and her characters are likeable but something just didn't click with me I suppose.

This book was intense!! It tells the story from different perspectives, which I always think makes a book more interesting. Some parts are pretty gruesome.. makes me mad at the horrible things that can happen in this world. Very well written though.. and I always enjoy books by Tess Gerritson - she writes a lot of medical thriller type books.

Vanish is the fifth book in the Rizzoli series. Not very different from the others. But, again, I get hooked on characters' lives and I just HAD to find out what was going to happen to Detective Rizzoli. Sigh - no surprises here. But, a fun, easy read.

Listening to this book on CD. The book was very vulger. It was also a short read. Not a whole lot of plot. The only reason it got 2 stars instead of one was because it had a pretty good twist at the end. Don't waste your time on this one folks.

I stay away from the harder mysteries. This one wasn't bad and did provide a bit of a surprise. The characters were well done and the politics frighteningly plausible. But I won't be reading any other by this author.

We see a more human side of Hard nosed Jane Rizzoli as she is held hostage while in labour, and then as she adjusts to motherhood, and tries to solve a mystery of 5 dead women.
A real page turner.

This was the first book I read of Tess Gerritsen's and from reading the first few pages I was instantly hooked! I've read a lot of thrillers, but most authors don't come close to Tess!
