The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series continues with another action-packed installment. Torak has been branded as a Soul Eater by the evil Viper Mage and according to clan law he is cast out. Any person who sees him must kill him and he's not to get help from anyone. Torak, soul-sick and confused, journeys to the Lake where the Otter Clan lives and there he discovers the source of his illness- Seshru the Viper Mage. He knows he'll have to defeat her to save his own life and protect the lives...more

"Outcast" was much darker and more chaotic than the rest of the books in this series so far. However, the outcasting posed an interesting problem that developed into an engaging, fast-moving plot. The dark and chaotic feeling of this book turned me off only a bit, but I think it's because of that (and that alone) I give it four stars instead of five. The thing with Seshru and Renn also annoyed me a bit... it just felt cliche, but it certainly did provide an interesting twist. I felt re...more

When readers last saw Torak, he had been branded as a Soul Eater. He must keep this tattoo hidden or he will become an Outcast. After a heated argument with a member of the Boar Clan, Torak’s tattoo is revealed. Now as an Outcast anyone of any tribe that comes across Torak, must kill him. Semakin cinta sama Serigala.

Covernya kurang begitu suka. Gambar Serigala-nya terlalu kejam, dan Toraknya mirip Pitecantropus Erektus. Loh kok malah ngomentari cover-nya ya? Hehe.

I love this series. The first book was okay, the second and third were wonderful. This one is slightly less good because I thought a sizable part in the middle was a bit boring, but Paver still has that beautiful clear writing style that I love so much and the characters are still as appealing as ever. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book!

I think I discovered this series for my sonrecommends it for: sci fantasy about ancient times
An excellent sequel - gripping to the end! Some surprises, and I'm anxious for another sequel! All good character developments - interesting to see Bale back - will have to look back to remember better the role he played in the previous sea trip book.

Slightly scarier and darker than the other books, which was perfect considering the subject matter. Another outstanding addition to the series.
