Zbog obima njegovih knjiga, i generalnog izbegavanja francuskih komercijalnih romana, naši izdavači ga zaobilaze...

Good story with one major flaw: the film tie-in edition with the photo inlay take the ending away! Thanks publishers!!

Ending made me want to put 4.5 stars.
but overall, maybe due to the translated version, I didn't feel very engaged into the action, some moments were predictable, some jumped out of nowhere which seemed like rushed sloppy writing. But the book made me want to watch the movie so it is a nice book overall, interesting ideas but I believe it could be written so much better, which deserves a little sign.

I started with the first book in the series after coming across him by coincidence.
What a story! Riveting from the get go. Brutal in his descriptions and horrific in the background for the story. Will need to read more of him.

A lean, mean, nasty thrill machine of a novel. Two detectives, each criminals in their own right, team up to solve some brutal ritualistic killings at a French university. Very tightly plotted, but the resolution of the mystery is a just bit to hard to swallow for me to rate this the full five stars. This is a grisly story full of unsavory characters, so be prepared for something dark and macabre. I couldn't read this fast enough, and I really loved the author's unique style and raw energy, but...more

I have to say, this one is my least favorite book of Grange.
I love hiw writing, it's breath-taking.
You can't just leave the pages and carry on your everyday life. Because usually, the plot takes you deep within itself.
But this one was, if i'm not wrong, Grange's 2nd book written by him. So i'm just going to say this book is from his so he couldn't fit his style really well.

But other than that, The Stone Council was really great.

I still love the book but plot was like a bit forced for the half...more

The book was somewhat predictable. I knew how it would turn out so I wasn't really surprised. But at some point i thought i couldn't take it because the murders were so violent. After all it was a Grangé classic.

Loved the book.
Wanted to read the book 'cause I watched the movie. A true detectiv novel. Loved the twists and the whole investigation.

Trama complessa, avvincente e affascinante.

Gripping thriller. I couldn't stop reading it til I reached last page. Confrontation young inspector with old one - both alienated in places of their work - and their cooperation in trying to solve mysteries of little boy's grave profanation, murders and weird acting of some people in small French towns. Do devils really exist and kill people in places forgotten by God?? Just read the book and find out.

The first time I've ever given up on a book! Got a third of the way in & just couldn't bring myself to carry on.

I can only presume that the suspense/tension has been lost in translation from French to English. I found the dialogue to be weak & the characters lacked any real substance.

Maybe the plot got more intriguing towards the end but I was just not engaged enough to find out.
Daron Sheehan
I can’t comment on the translation as I read the French version, but as far as the story goes this is a cracking thriller and is JC Grangé at his best – that is macabre horror. The plot is clever and original and cleverly set in the mountains, which adds powerful landscapes into the compelling mix of intrigue, suspense and arresting violence. This is a book which will make an impression…

Two very different detectives in very different locations find themselves investigating complicated linked cases. I loved the Alpine setting, conveying very well the loneliness and eeriness of the main characters. The author is great at the gradual reveal, although I had an inkling of part of the solution - but certainly not all of it.

Had to say that first i was sceptic about Grange's works. This is my first his book. And it hit with power. Totally loved it. Actually till 300 page or so i thought i would give it 4 stars. But something happened, something really good in my mind, i don't know. Impressive book and another great writer to the "must read" list.

This review is for the French edition of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. the murders are a bit gory, so not for the squeamish! the author does a geat job with the characters of the two detectives who work on different threads of the mystery. I dont want to give away any of the plot by saying more.Recommend.
