SHELTER FROM THE STORM

Carlson Raven had never seen anyone more beautiful or more courageous than Janna Moran as she struggled against the stormy sea in the Queen Charlotte Islands. When he rescued her from the choppy waters and revived her with the heat of his body, his yearning was as unexpected as it was enduring.

Janna felt oddly safe as she awoke in the warmth of a stra

Bark's Book Nonsense
After hearing so many raves about the wonderful hero in this one I think I was expecting too much. The story starts out when the heroine's boat gets caught up in a storm and begins to sink. Raven spots her boat going under and quickly arrives in time to save her life. While the storm rages (for what felt like several days) he nurses her back to health and they fall in love. But it's not as easy as all that because they both have wounded hearts and must first come to grips with their old heartach ...more

I'm such a sucker for Elizabeth Lowell! Even if I know that the book is likely to be cheesy as hell and too short for any decent character development (that's how all of her rereleased 80s books that I've read have turned out), I can't go past the name of Lowell. I grew up reading her books from the late 80s and early 90s and I guess I'm trying to recreate the happy feelings those early romances gave me. Unfortunately these republished, and sometimes renamed, but not reworked books are the worst ...more

Yes, yes great read be sure to read the companion 'Lover in the Rough'. This is an author that I have read a lot of and have added her books to my 'keeper' book shelf. Most I have read at least twice and some even more than that. Always in depth characters that anyone can identify with on some level.

Miscommunication ran rampant between this couple.

The UST was thick...and I felt that once they actually admitted to wanting each other, the inlet would probably boil...and I was right!

Wow, actually.

I worried that their lack of communication would keep them apart.

Just as catching as it was when I first read it 25 years ago.

Is this not one of the best Romance books ever written... Elizabeth Lowell at her very very best !

One of the first books I read from Ms. Lowell. It was very intense for it's time and genre. This is the book that pushed me into being a lifelong fan.

This is an interesting quick read.. picked it blindly off the the library shelf. I was intrigued by the characters, Janna and Raven, who discover one another after Raven rescues Janna from drowning in an unexpected storm. They are instantly drawn to one another and the sexual chemistry is intense (whew!!) The frequent miscommunication between the two is, at times, engaging but most times, downright annoying. Both Janna and Raven have anguished pasts that make it difficult for them to accept that ...more

3.5 Janna, a marine biologist, was caught in a sea storm with a broken boat. Raven was in the right place at the right time, because he saw Jenna struggle and was able to rescue her. They spend several days on his boat, sailing back to land. Janna is recently divorced and feels undesirable, because her ex-husband was gay. Raven also feels undesirable and unloveable, because he is too big. Raven tries to stay away from Janna, because he thinks she would give in to him from gratitude. These two we ...more

The writing was just gorgeous. I love how we got to place ourselves in each of the characters shoes and get the chance to see what they see. To feel what they feel. The love they have for one another is just so inspiring, that one envy's their feelings for awhile. Because when one yearns for a love that is true, one can only wish for the same. I fell in love with this book and I am so happy to have finished it! Can't wait to see what other books the author as written. I highly recommend this boo ...more

I advice anyone whose planning to read this book to have a box of kleenex facial tissues with you as you start reading it. This is the first novel I've read and owned by Elizabeth Lowell and I certainly enjoyed it, adored it, I was so engrossed by the plot, the setting and of the interest i had acquired towards the people of Haida and their culture
. The underlying sense of insecurities of both characters were a bit alarming, and relatable as well. It's a must read! :)

I found this book quite boring, to be honest I skimmed through most of the pages. The heroine and hero annoyed me with their constant putting themselves down ''oh she doesn't love me'....'No he doesn't love me'. I think the romance developed far to quickly, suddenly after all of 5 minutes the heroine was in love with the hero! I'm glad this was a book I borrowed from the library.

Don't go out and buy this book. Not worth it. The plot is more suitable for a short story. Not much too it except for sexual tension. The characters are not developed beyond stereotypes.
Save your time and money.
