I can't decide whether this man is a better writer than he is fisherman. How can I know? Fisherman are known to lie--nay, exaggerate, perhaps--but it sounds as though his catch-and-release has allowed him years of fishing pleasure, pain, and travail as is only right for one who writes of it. I adore his crotchety voice, his clear descriptions of locales we outsiders will never see, had we the time and the hand-tyed flies.

He is a very entertaining writer. I purchased this book for a vacation read. It was enjoyable. I went out and ordered 6 of his other books to read as well!
Well written, entertaining stories about fly-fishing.
Gierach writes as well as he fishes!

Highly entertaining. This is a book to throw in your rucksack or vest and knockout a chapter while waiting for a hatch.
good read, Gierach has an interesting view on life and flyfishing
Great tales of fly fishing's good, bad, and mysterious sides and the locations where it all goes down. The only reason I gave it four stars is because there are parts of the book where you don't feel connected with the story anymore, almost like an outsider hearing an inside joke.
Gierach is my favorite author. I've read all of his books multiple times and his writing style never grows old. I'll probably read this book another dozen times before the cover falls off.
Good book if you enjoy fishing. Gierach is amazing! His words definitely paint a picture in your mind!
