"Are you going to use the shotgun on me?" he taunted, leaning down so close that she could see the glittering depths of his eyes. "Then take your best shot, sweetheart, because I'll be back." She lashed out in retaliation. "You overestimate your charm. I'd always wonder what you really wanted, me or Angel Creek."
"Both, sweetheart," he said, and he crashed his mouth down onto hers.

This was a historical western, and it was like watching one of the old movies <3
I had huge fun and will definitel
I really enjoyed this audiobook. Betrayal was awful but the penance was good. Somehow the forced sex scene bothered me less here than in A Lady of the West. Although he never really feels badly about putting her very safety at risk. Maybe because he plans to protect her.. In Lady, it seemed more like heroine was being used and Jake's pursuit was part of that plan. Here, although Lucas wanted Dee's land, you could really see him caring for her and wanting her for herself. Also he doesn't hit her, ...more
Western American erotic romance, set in 1876, when Colorado became a state, a decade after the Civil War. Dated. Old-style bodice ripper. I didn't much like the supposed hero, Lucas Cochran. He nearly raped Dee that first time. Came across as an inconsiderate idiotic ass. Heroine was brave but selfish and so stupid, as explained below. Major plot contrivance set the premise for the land conflict, as further described below.

The book is dark. Too much rage from Lucas, at various points across the

This story takes place in the town of Proper in Colorado. Lucas Cochran upon the death of his father is the new owner of the Big Double C ranch which he has high hopes and big dreams of turning into an empire one day. One of the things that stands in his way and one of his many contentions with his father when he had been alive had been the issue of buying the land through which Angel Creek the most abundant source of water that ran through the surrounding mo

I normally enjoy Linda Howard's books, but this one didn't work for me.

I enjoy her writing. It didn't bother me that the first three chapters were long biographies about the three main characters. The rest of the book is mainly told through the characters' internal thoughts, with relatively little dialogue and action.

I disliked two things.

The hero, Luke. He meets the heroine and wants to have sex with her, despite planning to marry a different woman. When she resists, he says something like "I'l
I read a Reviewers review : Defy Not the Heart by Johanna Lindsay so in turn it bought me back to. Linda Howard’s Angel Creek I read the book but feel head over heels in *love* with the audio version.

With Ms. Howard’s story >*Angel Creek*< it pulled me in. I was there I had emotions & feelings that interact with those that were involved in the Read. This story fed my cravings for what my taste called for. a delicacy that’s became mine own acquired taste on my tongue. The kind of love
"Uau, maravilhoso!

This was definitely one of Linda Howard's oldie but goodies! I have been reading some of her older books lately because I've pretty much already gone through all her newer ones and I love her so much. Since her older ones were written in the 80's, some of them have not withstood the test of time and when re-read today are a little dated. But...this is NOT one of them. I'm happy to say that this is just as good as some of her more recent novels. The h was spunky and independent (maybe a tad too s ...more
I wasn't sure what this one was about when I took it out of the library, but at this point I am just looking for any Howard books I haven't read yet.

This was actually a historical romance that had some suspense built in. Dee is managing her own farm after her parents died and she is used to fending off cowboys who want her land. She has access to water, where the rest of the land in the area are beginning to dry up. One landowner has already tried to buy it from her at an unreasonably low price
When I started this book I actually thought this would be one that I ended up giving up on as I am not a big historical fan.

But Dee was so much fun to listen about that she was the reason I kept on with the book even though I totally knew how it would play out. There were a couple of places where I was pleasantly surprised, one of those was with Olivia. When we first meet her she could have easily ended up as a parody of herself, but the more you got to know her you can see why her and Dee were

Akhirnya kesampaian jg baca buku yg satu ini \(^o^)/

Ternyata ada 3 kisah asmara dlm buku ini, tokoh utama si Cochran & Dee, trus pasangan pemeran pembantu utama - Luis & Olivia, dan pasangan "pelengkap penderita" - Kyle & Tillie.... ()

Masalah yg di usung benernya ga berat2 amat, cenderung "ringan" namun di "berat2in", konflik pun cenderung muter2 di situ2 sajah, meski uhuk2nya mayan sih - tapi tetep terasa terlampau "ringan" & "renyah"....

Benernya, gw rada bingung ama

It's a typical romance story set in Colorado toward the end of the gold rush era. This story has a main couple but it also has two secondary couples. All of them fumble about trying to sort out their feelings and whom those feelings are toward.

I never warmed to the leading male, Lucas. Everything he did "for" Dee or "to" Dee was really just self serving. I feel like he didn't take her or her circumstances into consideration even for a moment. All he knows is what he w
This one was a sweet book. There isn't much that really goes on in it in the way of adventure. It is more a story about two people so right for each other and how they learn to trust one another enough to be partners. Lucas and Dee are very well matched in temperament and passion. Being a Linda Howard book, you know you are getting very well written and steamy love scenes. While I liked Dee and Lucas's story, I think I enjoyed Olivia and Luis more. Their relationship was so cute. Their fall into ...more
I am a fan of historical Western-set romances and Angel Creek has been a favorite of mine for many years. On an impulse, I felt like re-visiting it during these holidays.
Sometimes the memory of a story is better than the story itself, and so I've come to the conclusion that with each re-read (this is the third) I'm finding the story lighter and lighter, and, I’m liking Lucas Cochran - and his caveman attitude - lesser and lesser, although admittedly, he does have a few redeeming qualities. As f
Need your Uber Alpha Male fix? Well look no further because this IS the book! Linda Howard knows how to write them.
Lucas is arrogant, domineering and knows what he wants. He meets his match in Dee who is no simpering or tstl heroine. She is independent and strong. Sparks fly between these two and the oh boy the love scenes are hot!
I now off to look for my next fix - who's going to live up to Lucas?

Linda Howard is such a good writer, and she develops her characters so well, that even this dated novel stands up well. It is dated not for its period setting, but for its formulaic old-school romance narrative. In such bodice-ripper stories, the woman wants the man but denies or fights it, and the man cajoles, manipulates, bullies or even muscles the woman to accept him...and in the case of this story, he does all of the above. The reader can rationalize the

Predictable, but enjoyable. Nothing surprised or delighted me, but the story was still good. The characters were good.

The heroine Dee was a strong independent woman who was fun to read about. Because this is one of my favorite authors, I am reading all of her books. Sexual language: moderate. Number of sex scenes: eleven. Setting: about 1866, small town called Prosper, Colorado. Copyright: 1991. Genre: historical western romance.
I adore the guts and strength of Dee to live by herself and take care of her own land. She was doing a great job until a drought started forcing men to do stupid things. Lucas really drove the knife in, after Kyle stuck it in. With a courage and determination Dee fought to take back control of her land and Angel Creek. I enjoyed seeing Luis again from the first book, find happiness after losing Cecil.

Vacation lawnchair re-read -- I changed my rating from 4 stars to 3, though. I didn't like the Hero nearly as much this time reading - what a complete ASS, not nearly as likeable for me this time around. The stunt he pulled (needed, of course, to create The Big Mis) was so big I don't think I could have forgiven him for it. Still, had it's moments and it's staying on my keeper shelf.

Oh God. Why was Linda thinking adding Olivia's story here? It was just so damn common and she is the usual perfect, beautiful heroine. It was pale compared to the main heroine's story- making the book pale and taking some of it's flare.

However, I did like Tellie's story though her guy is an asshole. Other than that- this is a nice, charming story.
Udah baca ini beberapa bulan lalu, tapi belum update di Goodreads. :D

Kalau tak salah, aku kesal pada kelakuan cowoknya... menurutku tindakannya sulit dimaafkan. Tapi yah pada dasarnya, karena cinta... *bersiul2*

Coba kalau si cowok disiksa lebih mendalam, jadi 4 bintang deh.

*ternyata aku sadis*
I loved the detail, descriptions, emotions.

Recommends it for: anyone needing a light read
This is my guilty, supermarket smut, beach blanket author. This one was full of passion and long sensuous sex scenes. I was hot and bothered for the couple of days it took me to read it.
It was a fun and entertaining read, where one could get lost in the stories about families and relationships. Just a great title for the holdiays.
This was the first romance novel I ever read. This book is the reason I got so hooked on this genre.
