This is one of those WOW! books that cause you to read something and then quietly close the book, lay it on your lap and meditate on what you have just read. So many times while reading this I had to stop and wrap my mind around what I just read. Francis Chan has taken the very things that I need to focus on and concisely and passionately expressed them in this book in a way that I totally get. How to live my life in a way that I am showing a God who loves me that I love Him back. Francis writes...more

Totally whooped my tail. Probably THE most convicting spiritual book I've ever read. Challenges you out of any luke-warm tendencies. Challenges you especially in the realm of giving financially and sacrificially. Really, really good - prepare to be challenged out of your mind.

This book is incredible. One of my all time favorites. Chan takes simple truths we have heard our whole lives, but actually challenges and dares us to change our lives.

I'm not a very good Christian these days - heck, I'm not even sure if I qualify as Christian, since I'm not big on evangelism - but I do believe that the way Christ lived is the way we should live - loving, giving, sacrificing, and with minimal possessions.
So I find myself wondering how there can be so many wealthy Christians in the world; doesn't hoarding and having so much when others have so little go against Christ's teachings?
I'm glad to know now - after Chan's ca...more

i read this book this weekend. yeah. good. makes you respond to good questions. what does it look like to BE a Christian, not just say we are? can we continue to just THANK GOD for our blessings, and not give them to those in need? are we just trying to give the required amount, or the least we can to be seen as good enough? do we give out of our love for Christ or are we trying to buy His love or bargain for positioning in Heaven? really, what is a lukewarm Christian (am i one?)? and what does G...more

What started out as a rather simplistic explanation of the Gospel, quickly accelerated into a challenge that took hold of me and wouldn't let me go. I love the interactive, Internet aspect of the book which started by asking me to watch the video that points out the enormity and power of the God we serve. Then, the transformation of the text's emphasis on God's enormity to our rightful resonse to that enormity and it's accompanying grace started to tug at my Americanized, apathetic heart. Cha...more

In following a recent (and what I consider to be good) trend Francis Chan reasons that the large number of lukewarm Christians in America may not be Christians at all. He uses Scripture to back this up. (See John Piper's Finally Alive for a deeper discusison.)
While this stance may upset many people it's what he writes after that should bring people on their knees—in shock and in prayer. Most people don't love God like they should.

“God will not be tolerated”; “Lukewarm Christians are not Christians”; and “Do not assume that you are good ground”
Do these statements surprise you, anger you, or perhaps confuse you? Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentess God by Pastor Francis Chan of Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley, California will polarize you in your Christian thinking.

Francis Chan is one of my favorite speakers and his first book is no less superb in the manner that it challenges Christians' view of God, convicts us of our shortcomings, restores us through the love of the Father, and compels us to action. In short, he speaks the truth, but does so in love.
What further separates this volume from other books on Christian Living is that Mr Chan grounds all of his points in Scripture. In my favorite chapter of the book, "Profile of the Lukewarm,"...more

Amazing book! It really stretched my thinking of how I live my life. Do I want to trade comforts in this world for eternal rewards? Yes, but that's way easier said than done. Because of the book though I've surrendered more fully to God and was reminded that you can't pick and choose which of Christ's commands suit you and follow those. He expects us to obey all of them and to be more and more like Him everyday. I loved Mr. Chan's analogy of an escalator, if you're not running toward God y...more

This book is challenging, convicting, Christ-centered. A lot of the information is taken from many of Chan's past sermons, which means this book is great! The content and style of this book is very rare. Chan speaks to your heart rather than exclusively to your mind.
I highly recommend this book. Last year, I bought several copies for my co-workers. I look back and realize I could have provided them with shorter, more evangelistic resources, but since I had just read this book and fell ...more

I received 2 copies of this book for my baptism from my leaders... but sold 1 copy for 30 Hr Famine. This is an amazing book that every Christian ought to read. It really challenges Christians around the world to live a "crazy" live for God. According to Francis Chan, what is more "crazy" is not giving it all for God & not thinking about heaven's eternal rewards instead of our earthly dwelling everyday. This cause me to be a little critical at first, as I don't see all of my ...more

This book changed my life. I recently finished reading the entire bible myself for the first time...and I felt like it was teaching me things that it didn't seem to be teaching anyone else. Little did I know Francis Chan saw and read the same things as me and he saw what I saw in the bible. I was overjoyed to know I wasn't alone. But this book isn't for those who are fond of their money or their content lifestyle. This book is for those who want to feel and serve God in a radically biblical...more

Maybe the book was too hyped up that I was left almost disappointed when reading it. I would recommend the book. It is a theology book that is not academic and that is helpful to many readers and made the book very easy to read (it is a very quick read too). I did love the fact that it was saturated with Scripture. It is a convicting book. He hyped up the videos in the book so much that when I went and looked at them online, I was disappointed to an extent. Of course, I had just looked at ...more

Chan offers a description of the Jesus-obsessed life: risk-taking faith, passionate love, and selfless service. This view of the Christian life offers a stark contrast to what Chan observes in much of the American church: lukewarm faith, reasonable love, and comfortable service. Rather than seeking the living God, His church has sought security, comfort, and control. After asking them to consider God’s relentless love, Chan calls the reader to radical faith and obedience. A

This book was the basis for the 2009 Real Retreat for my youth group. I really like the basic idea behind this book, but I think that some of Chan's views really come down to personal opinion. He keeps saying that he doesn't want to offend people, but then he says something that is very debateable. I guess my point is, I liked the book, but didn't like how Chan was somewhat snobbish about his personal opinions about application of the Bible.

First of all, I am a HUGE fan of Francis Chan. If you haven’t heard his message from Passion 07, go download it on iTunes now!
Crazy Love is disarming in its charm and conversational tone – so much so that at times you may find yourself wishing for more meat only to realize you’re still chewing on the last chapter. Chan writes the way he speaks – like he’s just telling you what he thinks. He puts on no intellectual airs, though the issues he addresses go deeper than the g...more

This book challenged me in ways I didn't know I could be challenged. I thought this book was very well thought out and biblically based. I've been reading it for a the Stuff Christians Like book club (http://stufffchristianslike.blogspot.com or http://theprodigaljon.blogspot.com). I have posted any comments about it, but I've been reading them. A lot of people were offended by this book. I was offended by this book, but in a good way. I realized that I was trying to defend my comfortable w...more

Wow. Very challenging read: not the diction, it was simply written, but the message. Where am I holding back from Christ? Where am I really showing faith? Where am I acting as though I believe His commands and His promises?
Extremely cool. Now, as the last chapter of the book makes abundantly clear, comes the important part. Putting it to use: loving with Christ's love, counting the cost and doing it anyway.

I heard Francis Chan speak one summer when I was at Hume Lake Christian Camps and enjoyed him very much. My Bible study group is reading his book. I've read the first chapter and am super excited to read more. It has been giving me great things to think about to some questions that I have been struggling over for a while.
