Mrs. Merriweather, though respectably married, was once a governess, and so not an appropriate companion for an earl's daughter-in-law. But when the woman's husband is bothered by mysterious letters, Lady Fairfield asks for the former Miss Tibbles, who seems to have a knack for finding out what people are really thinking. At first, it seems like a simple matter of a few rocky romances, but that's before the first body turns up.
I like how this is a mix of a mystery and romance and intrigue. I really liked Miss Tibble as a character, although she reminds me of Sherlock Holmes in that she picks up on everything and has amazing truth. I got so caught up in figuring out the mystery of Lord Fairchild, that I forgot who was supposed to be romanced.
This is one of those 'read in between' books...those books I read waiting for new books from some of the authors who write series books. It was a fun read. A mystery and Regency Romance combined. Miss Tibbles/Mrs. Merriweather proved to be an able investigator. I am looking forward to reading her next mystery: Miss Tibbles Interferes.
