I saw this book in a Scholastic Book Club sheet several years ago. I even bought a copy...which has sat on my bookshelf for a couple of years now. I finally read it. It's awesome!
It's geared towards upper elementary kids but I enjoyed it very much as an adult. It's good, solid science fiction. It includes points on the power of mathematics and has a wonderful introduction to time travel paradoxes. It has moral dilemmas appropriate for kids who are not quite ready for A Wrinkle in Time...more

My son's entire 5th grade class is required to read this during the summer so I thought I'd check it out. I was afraid it would be a cheesy sort of book that would leave me disappointed, but I really enjoyed it. It has the right level of spookiness, a good touch of emotion, plenty of humor, and a satisfying ending to keep any 3rd-6th grader entertained. It is listed as a 4th grade reading level, so it is accessible even for a reluctant reader. I wish I could take part in the 5th grade discus...more
Gib Finney has an Unner which can undo a mistake, accident or tragedy after it happens. His practice time in mastering the Unner is over. His little sister, Roxy, was hit by a truck and is in a life-threatening coma. Roxy’s life is in his hands but Gib is concerned about which event he should change to prevent the accident and yet not greatly alter other events in the process. Was it the spitball he shot in class, an argument over a science project, or was it the carnival? Gib must re-li...more
It took a little while to get going, but it was worth it. The mystery at the center of the book is certainly very well done, which makes the book deserving of the Edgar Award it won. Gib is also a pretty cool kid who knows what he needs to do and not how to do it. All in all, a really good concept. However, aside from Gib, the characters aren't terribly interesting, original, or memorable, and that's a royal shame because that could've made the book into an instant classic. Nevertheless, it's a ...more
What I thought about this book was that it had a lot of surprising twists because one part was when Gib Finney had to go to the carnival and he had to take his six year old sister too because they were having so much fun when... BOOM! The scarist moment of the story was that Gib's sister got hit by a car she did not die that was the good thing. The reason why that accident happened because there was this dog that took something from Gib's sister and she wanted it back so she ran after the dog an...more
The book "The Power Of Un" was a book that will not soon be forgotten. It is the type of book that you might not care for but as the book goes on you start to really feel like your a part of the book and like you personally know the characters. It is definatly a comedy but just the same teaches you to really appreciate what you have, because it could be lost at any moment.
What would happen if you could undo any event in your life? Good read aloud with 6th grade and led to really good discussion.
I enjoyed reading this book but thought the beginning was slow. It started out boring but got thrilling and more exciting as the book went along. It taught me the importance of family and how you should respect them and love them. The ending of the book was great and caught me by surprise. This is and easy book to read and I would suggest it to people who like books about close family relationships and time travel. (counts as a chapter-book choice)
Don't take anything for granted. Any thing unexpected can happen in the blink of an eye.
Great book to read with children 8-12. Loved it!! Keeps them guessing.
Interesting I really like it. It was better than I thought it would be.
