3.5 - 4 stars. On the sweeter side of historical romance. Not that much angst but an overall okay book.

The basic plot in The Overlord's Bride is similar to a number of other medieval romances I have read. But that's fine with me (as long as the story is written well), since it's a storyline I greatly enjoy :). The heroine is a good-hearted, kind, and beautiful woman who I believe is in her (early?) twenties. She is initially unaware of this beauty, since she has been living in horrid conditions (beatings, barely enough food to survive, etc) at a convent. One of the humorous undertones is that her ...more

After thirteen years in a convent, where she was starved and beaten, Elizabeth Perronet will do just about anything to escape. When her cousin Genevieve breaks her betrothal to run off with another man, Elizabeth's uncle comes to the convent and offers Elizabeth an ultimatum. Elizabeth must marry the man Genevieve was promised to, or spend the rest of her life in the convent. Elizabeth quickly agrees the marriage, even though she has never met Raymond D'Estienne, Genevieve's former betrothed. El ...more

For my #3 challenge (Title With Wedding Word), I read The Overlord's Bride by Margaret Moore. Lady Elizabeth Perronet is given an ultimatum by her miserly uncle - marry Lord Kirkheathe, Raymond Destienne, in place of her cousin Genevieve, or return to the convent where she was mistreated for thirteen years. Rather than return to the convent, Elizabeth decides to take a chance on marriage to the dour Lord Kirkheathe.

Raymond Destienne had a reason to distrust all women - years ago, he had killed h

This book caught me from page one. I love reading historic books and this was a gift from a friend. I enjoyed the entire store. The main female character is a strong woman. I felt like i could relate to her because I am like her. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes romance and history
A pleasant read. Lady Elizabeth is taken from the covenant that she has live in for the past 13 years so that she may be married to Lord Kirkheathe. Kirkheathe, has already had one wife whom he accidentally killed whilst warding off her attempted murder upon his person. Scared and untrusting Raymond (Lord Kirkheathe)enters this marriage with more than just a grain of salt at hand. However Elizabeth's' straight forward, bold and honest nature proves to be just what he needs to heal his wounded he ...more
