The humor is back, hurray! This felt more like part of the Buffy TV series in tone: humor on the surface, but depth in the story. The scenes in Buffy's bedroom, between Zander with Drac, and with Dawnie/Godzilla Dawn, are all terrific! Action, heart and humor, the Buffy formula. The drawings between the chapters and at the end are not quite as spectacular as in the previous volume, but still quite enjoyable. I'm really appreciating the art in these books. Another good, (super)fast read for Buffy...more

Joss Whedon's resurrection of the 8th Buffy Season continues with its third installment, which is called Wolves at the Gate. As with the two earlier volumes, this one captures all the humor and action that made the show so popular in the first place. The writing and illustrating team have done a wonderful job of bringing back old characters and allowing them to shine as they interact with the standard regular.

Ahhh... outside, freezing rain is bringing the city to a standstill. But inside, I have a warm blanket, a cup of cocoa, and Buffy teaming up with Dracula to battle Japanese goth vampires, while her fifty-foot teenaged sister menaces Tokyo. What's not to love? This is some of the best writing in the Season 8 Buffy comics, and that's saying something, as they're very good overall. My adult comic-book-loving friends should definitely pick this one up.

I'd be hard press to decide between Vaughan and Goddard, both having done my favourite shows or comic respectively, but also worked in shows I don't like where their work seemed boring, but as I said in TPB 2, this 3rd volume is more amusing, funnier (but not in a bad way). So here are wonderful moments with Andrew, badly drawn but just like in the show, and Dracula, absolutely hilarious in his racist, homocidal fashion. Lots to love and laugh. Problematic for me was where they ripped of Y-The L...more

Falling into that realm of side stories that often proved extremely entertaining within the larger arc of the show...or drastically dismal, this foray into the Buffyverse fell somewhere in between. Characterized by moments of hilarity - Willow's flying transportation service being one - and moments of horror (the death of a Slayer still freaks me out, even though there are now thousands of them), the overall tone of the story felt off to my Innate Buffy Sense (IBS). No, it wasn't my grumbling ...more

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER SEASON 8, VOLUME 3: WOLVES AT THE GATE BY JOSS WHEDON, ET. AL: The latest collected volume of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 features a single issue scripted by Joss Whedon, as Buffy comes to a startling realization with her personal life that mixes with her job as the lead slayer over all the Chosen. The development continues in the Wolves at the Gate series as an attack is made on the Chosen base in Scotland by a horde of vampires that can turn into wolves, fog, an...more

The series, Whedon's "8th season" of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in comic book form, continues to be fun, rivetting and all around excellent. I'd love to have been able to watch this season in place of one of the later seasons of Buffy, because the Whedon touch is evident throughout.
Volume 3 is alternately fun and emotionally intense, if a bit over the top at times. The characters we know are spot on (although I wish the ever-annoying Andrew could be given a bit more of a life...more

This fourth part of Buffy season 8 contains two stories - a short one A Beautiful Sunset where the villain Twilight is introduced and then the main thing, Wolves at the Gate, a four-part story where Buffy's headquarters in Scotland is attacked by wolves. Wolves who turn out to be Japanese vampires able to turn into vampires, bees, fog... Of course this remind Buffy and companions about the one, the only - Dracula! And because of past history, Xander is send off to Dracula's castle to see why the...more

Buffy Season Eight continues. Wolves at the Gate one had an interesting idea: vampires in Japan have taken Dracula's powers and use them to steal the Slayer scythe. Interesting, but it didn't really live up to the potential. The bits with Xander and Dracula were awesome but the bits with Buffy "experimenting" felt out of place. I could have done with more of one and less of the other. The one story that Josh Wheadon contributed was the way I expected Buffy to handle situation.

me, myself, and I!recommends it for: fans of Buffy and Joss Wedon
This volume was hugely fun. Drew Goddard does an excellent job of writing, and the dialogue still has that Wedon zing. I can't really say this raises the bar much past what we've already seen in the t.v. series or the previous volumes of season 8. That being said, it is a great read (for both fans and new readers) and I highly recommend experiencing the fun that these pages holds, as well as the small bits of tragedy.

Typical Buffy wit. At one point, the evil, menacing Twilight interrupts himself in the middle of a dramatic speech to lift his mask and scratch his "itchy neck." Buffy has an affair with another slayer, japanese. diverse group. xander falls in love with an african-american slayer. lots of action, drama, characters you care about. art is expressive, look like the original actors. recommended for the list.

This time, Buffy and group is up against a group of Japanese vamps that have had the sheer gall to storm the castle and steal the scythe. Their powers of shapeshifting, and moving to fog helped.
Wait. What?
A true enjoyment, with the rejoining of some old friends, and some old....well, somethings. And yes, this is the one that Buffy um, has a roll with another Slayer. Happy?
