Jesse has spent the last fourteen years hiding in corners and rightfully so, having grown up in the foster care system of L.A. County, shuffled from one home to another. The recent discovery that there is no record of his birth in the United States has Homeland Security targeting him as a potential terrorist and under constant threats of deportation to Cambodia. Jesse is determined to stay out of trouble and maintain a low profile with his new family, the Mind

Not a bad book, but I definitely think someone of younger age (I'm 32, lol) would like it a lot more than I did. But reading a book about a Balinese demon queen is different and I liked the subplot with homeland security. So I liked the uniqueness of the plot and it was pretty dark. I didn't like the animal sacrificing but I guess it was necessary for the story.

A boy name Jesse, is a 15-year old orphan who has a mysterious past. He meets Honor Clarke, a weirdo that returned from Bali where her father was murdered. Later on strange and disturbing events have been happening as mere coincidence and Jesse realizes the Demon Queen has been resurrected. And you know the only person who can stop her is none other than Jesse himself. Ooohh.

I give it a four because it did start out slow but picked up fast and was very suspenseful where my heart would beat. Not

Even tough some list this as a horror story it didn't feel as such to me, although it did have it's share of gruesome moments. That being said it was a fairly good read.
Although, some people described the beginning as boring, I found it quite the opposite for it introduced the weird girl from the very start. The story slowly builds on, and although it feels a bit rushed at the end (maybe it was a bit too much to digest) the tempo of the storytelling mostly suited me. Although it did have some pr

This book was just plain weird. A boy who comes from nowhere, who has no parents and no homeland just happens to be fostered in the town where a mother and her daughter Honor relocate after a terrible tragedy in Indonesia that claims the life of Honor’s father. And Honor just happens to be the gateway for the mother of all evil goddesses to enter the world and take over. And the only one who can stop her is Jesse, the boy with the mysterious past. I kept thinking that the plot sounded familiar, ...more

This was a pretty interesting book that I wasn't sure how much I would like it while I read. It was different because I never really thought about Indonesian mythology, and it was something I found exciting a bit scary like other mythologies can be. This time is was different, however. I actually felt the fear behind the legends that were woven in the story unlike some other novels. I did feel the danger, and Mr. Lewis wrote this book well, in my opinion. I'm probably going to keep my eyes open ...more

Would make a good middle school booktalk. A bit cheesy in spots, but younger audience would find it entertaining.
