Beautifully illustrated book about a washer-woman's daughter. Mrs. Stiggins has to go to town on wash day to collect a legacy. She leaves her eldest Ameliaranne in charge of finishing the wash and delivering it all to her customers. Little brother Wee William switches the tags on the parcels of laundry and no one in the village has their own clothes. Luckily wash day is also the day of Lord and Lady Gay's fancy dress ball and everyone makes a costume out of the mixed-up laundry.
